Mental Health in Jeffco

Jeffco Public Schools is dedicated to promoting safe and supportive learning environments that increase mental health outcomes for all. Jeffco mental health professionals use a research-based approach to enhancing the coping skills and resiliency of our students, from prevention to intervention.

Jeffco strives to keep our students, staff, and families informed and engaged in discussions about various aspects of mental health affecting our community. Open conversations and shared understanding lead to better outcomes for students.

Meet the Team

Alison Semler

School Counselor

Alison hold a Master's Degree in counseling from the University of Colorado Denver and has been a school counselor since 2012. She has worked as a counselor at each level of education and has found her passion with Middle School. Outside of school, Alison enjoys being part of the Ken Caryl community with her husband, 2 kids, dog, and cat.


Mike Schmidt

Mike Schmidt is the Social Emotional Learning Specialist (SELS) at Braford North. He is a Colorado native who grew up in the Bear Creek area and has 2 sons. He graduated from Bear Creek High School in 97’ and received his Bachelors Degree from CU Boulder. He received his Master’s Degree in School Counseling and began working as a counselor in JeffCo over 20 years ago. Mike loves being able to impact the community he grew up in and is excited to be part of the Bradford North counseling team.

Dave Fennimore

Social Emotional Learning Specialist

Dave is the Social Emotional Learning Specialist (SELS) at Bradford South. He began his career in Jeffco in 2003, working as a School Psychologist. In 2016, he changed roles and started working as a SELS. Dave also supports the Chatfield Articulation area as a SELS coach. He enjoys being able to work with this amazing community.

The mission of our mental health program is to support the holistic development of students by fostering social-emotional learning, academic engagement, and a growth mindset. We are committed to creating a welcoming environment where every student feels a sense of belonging and connection. Through personalized counseling services, we empower students to build resilience, engage in their learning, and cultivate skills for personal and academic success. Our goal is to support students in developing the self-awareness, confidence, and motivation necessary to thrive in both school and life.
