Welcome to English 10

Hello Mustangs!

Welcome to our class website!

My name is Christa Medine, and I grew up in Massachusetts where I received my master's in English literature from the University of Massachusetts in Boston. I have been teaching for thirteen years, the last seven of which have been here at Ralston Valley! The RV community (teachers, parents, and students) make this an amazing place to work.

On this site, parents and students can view the course expectations and take a look at our daily agendas. Both parents and students can find most of our course materials and assignments at our Schoology site, for which there is a link on the online tools tab.

This year, sophomores will work on improving their skills in reading, writing, grammar, vocabulary, research, discussion, and analysis. We will read a number of texts, including memoirs, fiction, plays, poetry, essays and choice reading books. Students will also engage in a number of reflective, academic, and authentic writing experiences. In order to improve their writing skills, students will participate in the writing process, which includes planning, drafting, revising, and editing. Our hope is that all students will learn skills that will aid them on their journeys as life-long learners and that will help them accomplish their goals in regards to their further education, careers, and personal lives.

"Stories matter. Many stories matter. Stories have been used to dispossess and malign but stories can also be used to empower and to humanize."

Chimamanda Adiche

"Education is not the learning of facts, but the training of the mind to think!”

– Albert Einstein

“And by the way, everything in life is writable about if you have the outgoing guts to do it, and the imagination to improvise. The worst enemy to creativity is self-doubt.”

Sylvia Plath
