Learning Specialist

I teach Reading, Writing, and Math in small groups. I have also taught 2nd, 3rd and 4th grades throughout my school career.

When I was little, I dreamed of being a fighter pilot or an archaeologist. I grew up in Colorado and was in the first graduating class of Horizon High School. I also went to college in Colorado. I received my BA in Social Sciences/Elementary Education with a minor in Special Education from the University of Northern Colorado in 1995.  In 2003 I received my MA in Severe Needs: Cognitive with additional licensure in Mild/Moderate Affective Needs, also from UNC

I want the kids I work with to know that they can do hard things, that they are valued, and that they are my sunshine!

You might be interested to know that I went to Elementary school here at Little Elementary. We were still the Little Lynx back then!

I teach SpEd this year in the same classroom where I spent 3rd grade as a student. When I was a kid, I dreamed of singing and my favorite subject in school was Math. I love teaching math, and I still love to sing.

If I could leave one thought with my students, it would be that we can do hard things!

Ms. Engler

Learning Specialist

My educational journey led me to the University of Puget Sound in Washington, where I pursued both my undergraduate and graduate degrees. It was there that I developed a deep appreciation for the intricacies of biology and the richness of history, laying the foundation for my academic interests and professional endeavors.

Over the past decade, I've had the privilege of working in various roles within the field of education. I've served as a preschool teacher, nurturing young minds and fostering a love for learning in early childhood. Additionally, I've worked as a tutor, providing personalized support to students in need of academic assistance. Through volunteering, I've had the opportunity to make meaningful contributions to educational initiatives and programs in my community.

This year marks my first year in Jeffco as a learning specialist, where I am excited to continue my journey in education and make a positive impact in the lives of students.

Biology and history have always been my favorite subjects. I'm fascinated by the wonders of the natural world and the complexities of life, as well as the stories and lessons that history imparts. Whether it's exploring the mechanisms of living organisms or unraveling the events and cultures of the past, I find endless fascination in these subjects.

The best part of my job as a learning specialist is witnessing the "aha" moments that students experience, no matter how small or big. There's nothing quite like the satisfaction of seeing a student grasp a concept, make a connection, or overcome a challenge. These moments of discovery and realization are incredibly rewarding and serve as a reminder of the impact that education has on shaping young minds.
