Frequent Questions
Where can my student find the material, agenda, and homework for this class? I post everything on Google Classroom. Students have access to the weekly agenda and most (except speaking activities, quizzes/tests, class games) are posted in Google Classroom. They should check this weekly! Have your student show you what the Google Classroom looks like and discuss what they are working on with you. One of my goals is to help my students be active learners who take ownership of their work. That way, they’ll be successful as they continue their education.
How can I know what my student is working on in class?
Our learning goals are posted every week with the agenda. Your student should be able to explain to you what we are learning in class and how the activities in the agenda are helping with our learning targets.
● How can I help my student study for quizzes/tests? There is a Unit vocab for each Unit of the course. Students may use flashcards, quizlet, gimkit, or other online games and platforms to practice vocabulary/grammar concepts. You should see your child practice these for a few minutes a day, on a regular basis. You can also help your student by quizzing him/her orally. Give the vocabulary word in English and have him/her give you the French Spanish.
● Any tips for improving their listening? Encourage your student to watch T.V. in French / Spanish. Especially shows or movies he/she is familiar with. That allows your child to focus on the listening, rather than having to worry about following the plot. (Netflix, for example, allows you to choose from different audio languages including French). Listening & reading in the target language are the best ways to acquire a foreign language!
● How about their speaking skills? Have your child speak with you in French / Spanish. You may not know any French/ Spanish, but it is fantastic practice for him/her. Soon your student will become your French / Spanish teacher!
