Media Bias and Reliability

Students may regularly reference the following websites as they determine the bias and reliability of various sources of information.

  1. Adfontes Media's media bias chart. (We may use the SUMMA News Literacy Program to allow students to rate various sources of information for bias and reliability.

Credible Sources of Information:

These publication websites contain information about current events as well as commentary on these current events. We often use articles from these sites in order to analyze and interpret samples of purposeful writing, to identify and explain an author’s use of rhetorical strategies, and to create and sustain original arguments based upon our reading. Each publication has its own privacy policy, which can be found on each publication's homepage.

Google: Sites, Classroom, Calendar, Docs, Quizzes, and Forms

Students will use these various Google sites for many purposes: checking our class agenda; obtaining makeup work; writing and revising essays; completing and submitting in-class activities, quizzes, and questions; etc. Find Google's privacy policy here.


Khan Academy and College Board

Students will create and link accounts to both of these websites in order to practice for the SAT. Students will also have a MYAP account to utilize AP Classroom. Find Khan Academy's privacy policy here. Find the College Board's privacy policy here.


MLA Formatting Help

All typed assignments for English classes must adhere to MLA format. These links to Purdue University's Online Writing Lab provide basic information about MLA requirements for formatting a paper and a Works Cited page, citing sources within a Works Cited page, and using parenthetical citation within an essay.
