The Interdependent Community of the Eastern Hemisphere

"Before you finish breakfast this morning, you've depended on more than half the world."

-Martin Luther King Jr.

"Whether the borders that separate us are picket fences or national boundaries, we are all neighbors in a global community."

-President Jimmy Carter

This is a picture of two cogs interlocking with one cog overlaid with the American flag and the other overlaid with the Chinese flag to show how countries rely on one another.

In Unit 4, we will spend time in the modern era and look at what is impacting our world today. We will see how countries work together and how they are truly interdependent on one another. The first thing we'll do is recognize the different international organizations that are out there and spend time looking at the United Nations (UN). We will also head back to the Middle East and analyze the conflicts that are happening over there right now (specifically in Syria). You will also be able to take part in a model UN simulation. The last thing we will do is analyze international conflict and cooperation and the motives behind each.
