In-depth Self Study

Description: Students are often asked to study something in-depth in school, but have you ever done a study of yourself? Under resources is the In-Depth Self Study Matrix of Activities. Within the matrix are 12 activities to choose from to create your own in-depth study of self. Try to choose at least 5 activities but you can always do more. Maybe you could even complete them all! Before you start, check out this list of suggestions to help you think creatively when you engage in this work.

Ages: Primarily 4th grade and up, some activities will work for younger ages with teacher/parent support

Minimum Materials Needed: Paper and Pencil, a Notebook or Sketchbook, Various others listed in the In-Depth Self Study Matrix

Time for Activity: Varies based on choice, a few to multiple hours

Use a notebook, journal, or sketchbook to create a "Book of You":

  • Include thoughts, ideas, and summaries of your work from the in-depth self study. What did you learn?

  • Include pictures or artifacts from the work you completed from the matrix.

  • Think about sharing some or all of your "Book of You" with someone that is special to you.

Use Google Slides to create a slide show about you!

  • Include slides about your thoughts and ideas from the in-depth study.

  • Include pictures of the things you created or the activities you tried.

  • End the slide show with a reflection on what you learned during your study.

  • Think about sharing your slideshow with someone that is special to you.

Use Google Sites to create a personal website. Or use the Jeffco Digital Tools to create something new!

  • Include pages about your thoughts, things that make you special, or ideas about what you learned from your study.

  • Include pictures or use web-based apps to embed videos, slide-shows, and more into your website.

  • Include a page that is a reflection of what you have learned from your in-depth self study.

  • Think about sharing your website with someone that is special to you.
