The first day we will be hands on instruments in class will bet the week of September 11th.  If your student has access to their instrument before then we ask that they refrain from playing them until we have a chance to walk through the care and handling of the instrument.  If you already have an instrument for your student please make sure you also have the correct method book for your student.

We will hold a Information and instrument hands on night at Dunstan Middle School on August 24th from 6p-8p.  At this event we will discuss band/orchestra classroom expectations, what your child will need to be successful, and student will also be asked to try ALL the instruments.  Experienced teachers/players will assist in evaluating students on each instrument to help identify any natural occurring attributes for each combination of player/instrument.

At the end of the instrument hands on night students will write down the instruments that they would prefer to learn.  Mr. Estell and Mr. Conner will use teacher/player feedback from the student's hand on experience to place each student on an instrument.  Students will be assigned one of their top three choices based on a student's natural aptitude for the instrument and the program's needs.
