Audition Information

Are you a new instrumental music student to Golden? Or a current student looking to audition into the advanced group for next year? You are in the right place!

**Updated for Fall 2024 Auditions**

Auditions for band and orchestra can be either submitted either:

Please read instructions carefully!

All new students MUST submit an audition-you can either prepare just the new student material, or both the new student material and the advanced material.

**A NOTE ON TEMPOS**

I have often included what the final tempo on excepts are-this is NOT an expectation for these auditions!! My goal is only to see what approx. 2 weeks of practice on these excerpts looks like for you. Slowly and correctly is the goal.

Orchestra

If you are a new student to GHS (weather you are planning on auditioning for the advanced group or not) you should prepare the music linked below. Major Scales C, G, D, A, F, Bb, and the following page of excerpts.

If you are a new, or a returning student and wish to audition for the Chamber Orchestra, you will need to prepare the following scales and excerpts. Please understand that I do not expect finished tempos on these, given the amount of time you have to work these. Focus on proper technique rather than speed. If you are a new student, you will need to prepare BOTH these excerpts, AND the New Student packet above. If you are a current student, you need only prepare what you see below.

**Bass Students: The A major 3 octave was a selection from the 2019 All-County audition material. I realize this is extremely high, so if needed please reduce this scale to 2 octaves. Be aware however, that this 3 octave scale is often requested for All-State auditions.

Band

Audition Music for Fall ‘23 Band Chair Placement

All band students, returning and new, should prepare four scales: concert C, F, Bb, and Eb in as many octaves as you are comfortable. I have linked band scale sheets at the bottom of this page. In addition, all wind players should prepare exercises #14, 17, 49, 90, 234, found via the links on the document linked to the left. Percussion players should open their document, and prepare the exercises that are circled.

Based on your score from this audition, you may receive additional audition music for the advanced ensemble, that you will be asked to perform during the first week of school.
