Family Engagement Liaison

Hello Gator Families!

I am Shantelle Lopez, your Family Engagement Liaison here at Slater Elementary. As some of you may already know, I worked with kindergarten as a Para for two years here at Slater, in which I thoroughly enjoyed. After given the opportunity to work with Kindergarten, I realized I would like to lead and help students and their families on a more personal level. Which is why being a family engagement leader is a fit for me! Some may ask what is a FEL and what do they do? A FEL role is to assist, teach, sense-make, support, empower, and connect families to what their children are doing and learning in school, so that they achieve academic and social-emotional success and well-being. My goal is help knock down any barriers that keep families from doing so!

As your FEL, I would like to tell you a little bit about myself. I am a proud Latina/Native American born and raised in Denver, Colorado. I graduated from Denver West High School. I am married and have three wonderful children ages 8, 12 and 14. I enjoy spending time with family and friends. I love playing softball, swimming, camping and hiking. I am a huge Bronco, Nugget, Rockies, and Av’s fan! When I’m not at home, you can usually find me at the ball field watching my kiddos playing softball/baseball!

I hope to make Slater a warm welcoming place more than it already is! I hope to be an advocate you can trust and lean on when needed! As well as create a relationship/partnership with families, the school and the community. Having a positive understanding is important for students to succeed. My goal is to impact the lives of students and their families! Feel free to stop by and say hello, my office is in B1. You may also reach me at 303-982-1192.

Welcoming All Families into the School Community

One way Slater welcomes all families and gives them opportunities to be active participants in the life of the school, feel welcomed, valued, and connected is by having families volunteer to work our school store. They are able to set up, label and display merchandise as well as interact with teachers, staff, and students in selecting items and celebrating student success! Our students love when they see their families working the store.
