Erin Sinco - 4th Grade

Welcome back to another fantastic school year!

It is truly an honor to be teaching at Elk Creek  for my eighth year! I have found my  “home” at Elk Creek and I feel it       really is THE BEST!

I know some of your families, but will be meeting many of you for the first time. I am overjoyed for all of you to join our fourth grade community. In each classroom, we are truly a "family" at Elk Creek.

I will  tell you a little bit about myself, for those just meeting me.  After completing college in Pennsylvania, I moved to Colorado to pursue my teaching career and enjoy all the state has to offer. Upon moving, I was hired for my first job at Lawrence Elementary and worked towards a masters degree. I have been teaching in Jefferson County School District for twenty two years. Prior to coming to Elk Creek, I spent eight years at Kyffin Elementary in Golden, teaching third and first graders.

My family moved to Conifer eight years ago and we are in love! This area is beyond beautiful and has so much to offer with outdoor activities that we love to do as a family. Lawrence, my husband and I have been married for 17 years. We have ten year old twins, Max and Emma, who will attend fifth grade here, and Luke is fourteen and will be a freshman at Conifer High School. Go Lobos!  We are a sports loving family! We are Penn State and Bronco fans, and have a six year old Laberdoodle named Nittany.

I am eager to get to know all of the students and families that I will work with this year. Let’s make this a truly memorable year in 4th grade! If you have any questions at all, never hesitate to ask! I am excited for a year of learning, laughing and FUN!

       Sincerely,

       Mrs. Sinco

Hello families!

We worked hard this week and finished our first unit in math on multiples and factors. We took the test this week, and the mid unit assessment was graded and sent home today in Friday folders. In writing, we are wrapping up our very first personal narrative publishing! Ask your child to read theirs to you. Watch for them coming home this week and next week. Reading focused on author's purpose, central idea and monitoring and clarifying when we read. Social studies was focused on the Ancestral Puebloans and we start Ute and Cheyenne tribes next week. Science focused on fossils and we explored more rock layers.

Hi families!

We have some important dates and events coming up that I wanted to share with you. First, I look forward to meeting with all of you for fall conferences to discuss your child's progress. They will be held October 3rd or 5th. I will include the link for you to sign up for a time that is convenient for you.

Next, we are starting homework this week and wanted to explain what it will look like. It will always be sent home on Friday and need to be turned in the following Thursday or Friday morning. The students are being asked to fill out a reading log each week, at least 5 times per week and 30 minutes each time.

For math, I am excited to share that homework will be online and connected to your child's MAP scores. We are using "MAP accelerator" which is a differentiated math platform designed to challenge your children at their level. The program will track the time spent and I can check that at the end of each week. We are asking kids spend an hour per week on this math program. We have all logged in and practiced in class, but if they forget, this is how you find it...

Jeffco Public Schools (bookmarked-top left corner), then CLEVER, then MAP Accelerator

Test scores for CMAS and MAP are being sent home today in Friday folders, along with the first math assessment. There is no school on Friday of next week due to a teacher work day.

Thank you and have a wonderful weekend!

     Behavior Reward! 9-20-23

Hello families!

We have been working so hard on behavior expectations and we filled our lego jar on Monday! We will be celebrating tomorrow with a "camp day." Kids may wear pj's, bring a sleeping bag or blanket and bring a stuffy. We will be celebrating in the morning, making paper campfires and watching a movie. In the afternoon we will be doing an erosion science experiment, setting up teams for a social studies project, and wrapping up our first story in our nonfiction unit.

Don't forget to sign up for fall conferences on October 3rd or 5th!
