Orchestra FAQ's
Do I need to audition to join orchestra?
No! You can join Charger (String) Orchestra with no audition! For Chamber Orchestra there is an audition that takes place in person the week before spring break.
Do I need to take private lessons?
No! We learn a lot of specific techniques in orchestra for each instrument. If you DO take private lessons you will improve faster, but they are not required!
What if I took a year (or more!) off from playing?
No worries! Playing an instrument is a lifelong skill, and we will help you get back to where you were and move on from there! The more the merrier, and the goal of orchestra is learning to play well with others, so you know it is fun!
Do we get to go on any trips?
We DO!! We go to ASTA festival every year, and every 3-4 years we take a big trip out of state! (Last time was New York City!). We are always working to plan new things!
How many concerts do we play?
We play 5 concerts every year, plus opportunities to show off our skills and support our community such as ASTA Festival, Future Charger night, CHOP, and graduation at Red Rocks!
Can you earn a letter in orchestra?
YES! By playing concerts, supporting your friends in band, choir, and theater, taking lessons, auditioning for outside performance opportunities and so much more, you can earn letter points towards your letter, pin, or additional bars!
