When we stop saying 'my kids' and start saying 'our kids' the responsibility becomes manageable, the growth becomes normal, the attitude changes to perseverance, and the dreams become reality.

Mission, Vision, Collective Commitments and Goals

As a team of 6th grade teachers we discuss our shared goals extensively on a daily basis in order to ensure we are headed in the right direction. Following the Jefferson Area Pillars for success and school based mission, we are finding promise in our students. We believe all students can learn, regardless of any factor involved. The learning doesn't happen because they want it to, it happens because we make sure it has a place to.

Collaborative Team Structures and Essential Learning Defined

The 6th grade team meets every Thursday for over an hour to collaborate and plan using the essential questions from standards and CAP, then we use the time to discuss strategies and best practices to assure our students are getting the best, and giving their all. We also meet intermittently through the week to aim our instruction and discuss appropriate interventions

Common Assessments

All of our 6th grade assessments are shared grade wide. This is important so that all students are tested on the same things, meaning they are learning the same things. If we are deliberate when we define the essential learnings, it means all students are receiving the same, or better, level of opportunity as the best schools in the nation.

Data and Student-led Conversations

If we do not use data to drive our teaching, the lessons are meaningless. If you do not know where you came from, you can not see how far you have gone. This idea is central to our success. Between daily formative assessments, district wide assessments, and innovative technology based assignments, the students are monitored and lessons are altered daily.
