Once every year, the Unified Program puts on a play of their choosing. This year, the performance was Tangled. The actors and mentors worked all semester to create this amazing show. Along with other mentors, Lexi Elliot had the privilege to work with Gavin Goodwin who played Flynn Rider. This is a class that anyone can sign up for. It's a semester-long class, full of laughter, games, and amazing memories. On Friday December 6th, the group performed a wonderful production. Madilynn Wirth, the actor who played Rapunzel, when asked why she loves theater class, said, “I love to make new friends.” Unified theater is full of so many genuinely kind people and is a space to meet new people. Maddie also said, “I love to build and create the stage props.” The creativity of the show was Maddie and many other’s favorite part of putting on the play. The actors and mentors work together to create all the props and sets used in the show. It's a great time to be crafty and show your creative side. This class is full of wonderful opportunities to be involved with other groups and programs in the school. Everyone is looking forward to seeing what show they put on next!

This fall, Columbine's UIA hosted Coffee Jam for students to share their talents on a big stage. Coffee Jam proceeds go towards Unity in Action—an organization that helps the Columbine community as well as a community in Uganda. At Coffee Jam, there were many types of performances, such as comedy, poetry, and many types of musical showcases. Mr. Christy said that his favorite part of Coffee Jam is “Everyone from different groups coming together to just be together in a relaxed environment, enjoy the performances put on by our own kids.” Similarly, some students, including Sabrina Kouyoumdjian and Evelyn Lefever, said that they look forward to and enjoy “seeing the people that show up, because it's surprising and exciting every time.” They also “love how supportive Mr. Garkwo and Mr. Daly are of Unity in Action.” Mr. Garkow and Mr. Daly are the sponsors of Unity in Action, began Coffee Jam at Columbine, and have hosted 10+ Coffee Jam events at the school. Aside from student talents on stage, there was an art gallery there to showcase the students' art. One student, Scarlett Walker, said that “My brother is here with his artwork, which is something I haven't seen here before. So seeing everyone’s art here on display was pretty cool.” Some fan favorite performances were the couple duets, individual singers, poets, as well as the bands. This year was another successful year for Coffee Jam, and we look forward to what the Rebels choose to showcase in the spring!
