Meet the SEL Team

The SEL team at each school is comprised of Administration, the Social Emotional Learning Specialist, and the School Social Worker. Teachers are also an integral part of SEL instruction and helping to provide supports for all students.

Meet Your Social Emotional Learning Specialist

Hello! Thank you for visiting my webpage!

A little about my role. The role could easily be social emotional skills teacher, behavior interventionist and classroom coach!

I am lucky enough to get to teach every student at Stony Creek and Shaffer using tools from both 2nd Step and Leader In Me. Sometimes, students participate in small, skills based groups with me, or get support in the classroom to gain skills to strengthen their behaviors for learning. Coaching and supporting teachers around behavior in the classroom is another one of my hats. Through classroom observation and conversation, teachers and I work together to support positive behaviors in the classroom.

A little about me. I grew up on a farm in the San Luis Valley. I graduated from Adams State University (College) with a degree in Vocal Performance and Music Education. I taught elementary music at Mount Carbon Elementary for 16 years and middle school choir for one year at Sky Vista Middle School.

I graduated with a Masters of Science in School Counseling from the University of Phoenix. For 6 years, I was a counselor at Chatfield Senior High School before coming into the position of SELS at Stony Creek and Shaffer.

Teaching and counseling are the joys of my heart, so I am finding this position an absolutely perfect fit and truly enjoy being a part of the Stony Creek and Shaffer communities.
