All late work will automatically receive a 10% deduction penalty. Students have two weeks after the original due date to turn in any late assignments. This applies to all assignments, large and small. It is critical for the students to complete assignments in order to obtain the essential knowledge and skill sets. Any blank or incomplete assignments submitted through Google Classroom will receive a 10% deduction if student does not fix/finish the assignment before the due date/time.
Students are expected to manage their time in class and at home to complete work on time. All core classes (Language Arts, Social Studies, Engineering, Science) will provide time in class to complete group projects. Expect some work at home, but know that giving students ample time in class to complete group projects is a valued characteristic of the iSTEM program.
All core classes have the same Tardy Policy: students are expected to arrive prepared to each class and seated by the bell. Students not seated at the time of the bell will be marked tardy. We will be calling home if students have excessive tardies to determine consequences and a strategy to arrive to class on time.
Plagiarism is not acceptable in any class. Cheating is considered a form of plagiarism.
The first instance of plagiarism the student will receive a zero for the assignment. The student can re-submit the assignment for partial credit. The second incident will earn the student a zero on the assignment with no chance to re-submit the assignment. The third incident, the student will earn a zero on the assignment and an office referral.
In high school, the stakes are higher for plagiarism, furthermore some colleges will not accept students who show a pattern of plagiarism. In college you can lose scholarships and/or be expelled from institutions permanently. Because of the raising stakes, we take plagiarism seriously.
Communicate ahead of time if you know you are going to be absent. Complete the Pre-Arranged absence form if applicable (pick one up in the main office). Please communicate with your teachers within two days, not during class time, for make-up assignments if you are absent. Check Google Classroom for work completed the day you missed.
It is important for absences to be excused, so please make sure to call the attendance line and excuse your student if they are going to miss school. Students who are absent have two school days for every day of excused absence to make up work for full credit per Jeffco policy. The first day back from an absence counts as day one.
Any work turned-in after the allocated time for make-up work will be considered late and graded according to our team expectations around late work.
Life happens, we get it. Communication is key.
Students will be held accountable for group and independent work.
Steps taken if a student is struggling to positively contribute to their group:
Teacher guided group conference
Individual contract
Parent contact
If student choices do not improve, the student will be removed from the group and will complete the project independently.
Wireless earbuds WILL NOT be allowed in the classroom and handled the same as our school-wide no cell phone policy.
Wireless earbud usage in the classroom causes bandwidth issues when using the internet.
When appropriate, personal non-wireless headphones/earbuds may be used.
