Miss McKenna

Hi there! My name is Miss McKenna and I am so excited to be your child's teacher this year.

I was born and raised in Valencia, California. The one thing I miss the most about my hometown was being so close to the beach and going there every weekend to surf and spend hours in the ocean. Nonetheless, Colorado is my new home and I absolutely love it here. I originally moved to Boulder to get my undergraduate degree at the University of Colorado. Sko buffs! I then moved on to get my masters in teaching at the University of Colorado Denver. I now reside in downtown Denver with my partner, Julien, where we are loving the city life.

I have two golden retrievers named Ella and Jordy. I am dog obsessed, so all photos of your dogs are encouraged and appreciated.

My passions include traveling all over the world, snowboarding, and most of all...teaching! I am thrilled to be joining the Hoof team this year. Please stop by and say hello at any time. I’m excited to get to know all of the wonderful people in the Vanderhoof community.

Mr. Martinez

Welcome to fifth grade! I am a Colorado Native and lover of life! I am happily married and we have four grown children. They all navigated Jeffco Schools and the three oldest have college degrees and our youngest is attending University of Colorado and is a sophomore. Some of my hobbies include fishing, hiking, bike riding, and sports. I played and coached a variety of sports over the years. I enjoy attending and supporting our local sports teams. One of my passions is educating and supporting children in their life journeys. Every child is different and unique and I love embracing them and helping them discover their talents. I have been at Vanderhoof for ten years and I am dedicated to this wonderful community.

Mrs. Matthews

Welcome! I am thrilled to be your child's teacher this year. Fifth grade is an exciting year not only for academic learning but also for social and emotional growth. This will be a fun and exciting year. I look forward to getting to know you and your child.

I am originally from a small town near Lake Huron in Michigan. After graduating from high-school I moved to Boulder where I attended the University of Colorado. My public teaching experience began in 2003 in the state of Arizona. I taught fifth grade as well as eight grade at a K-8 school before returning to Colorado.

My husband Nat and I have two children Josie (14) and Thatcher (12). Together as a family we enjoy the outdoor activities Colorado has to offer. In addition to enjoying the outdoors I am passionate about education, health and reading.

I am deeply committed to Vanderhoof, its success and the success of your child.
