JHS Ensembles

The Jefferson High School Band program offers a complete artistic experience through the world of music. We believe that students can grow and become more meaningful citizens for our society through the opportunities they have during their time with our program. JHS has many ensembles that can enrich our students lives and develop their musical skills as well. Every fall, the Dragon Regiment Marching Band comprised of approximately 120 members excites the crowd at football games and also competes every year in at least 3-4 events/competitions. This allows our students the opportunity to be a part of the best possible experiences and in the best venues around the southeast. Also throughout the school year, we have 2 concert bands, Symphonic Band and Concert Band that are comprised of the very best students at our school. Some of the other aspects of our program that we are very proud of are the Private Lessons studios (coming soon), our JHS Color Guard Program (Fall & Winter), The Red Flight Dragon Drumline, the Dragon Basketball Band, the JHS Dragon Jazz Ensemble and our Student Leadership Team.

Our Private Lessons Studio (coming soon) allows students the opportunity to have weekly appointments with trained professionals, that our director hand picks, to help them on their instrument. There is a small weekly fee for these lessons that the students/parents work out with the private instructors.

The JHS Color Guard Program gives our students the opportunity to excel in the pageantry of guard. Color Guard is a combination of the use of flags, sabers, mock rifles, and other equipment, as well as dance and other interpretive movement. Winter color guards can be found in high schools, middle schools, universities, and other independent organizations, some of which are related to drum corps. Life skills and leadership opportunities are also essential things our students learn while participating in this activity.

The Red Flight Dragon Drumline allows students to progress and learn about the wonderful world of percussion. Percussion ensembles consist of the marching percussion (also called battery) and front ensemble (also called pit) sections of a marching band or drum corps. Indoor percussion (coming soon) marries elements of music performance, marching, and theater; thus, the activity is often referred to as percussion theater. Our students get opportunities to play for several events throughout the school year ranging from pep rallies to special school events.

Dragon Basketball Band is our newest adventure available to any students in high school that play an instrument and want to come out and support our varsity boys and girls basketball teams. We play at every home game and help cheer our teams to VICTORY!!

Dragon Jazz Ensemble is a group that primarily meets in the spring once a week to learn about one of the essential American art forms known as Jazz. Any student with an interest in Jazz and plays a jazz specific instrument in eligible for membership.

The Student Leadership Team is one of our proudest achievements at JHS. Students audition for the privilege to serve their peers throughout the school year in all aspects of daily student life. We train these student leaders during the summer at an intense retreat specially designed for them and work throughout the school year to sharpen their skills as leaders. We believe that this is a key element in developing better citizens for our future as well as our band program. Studies have shown vast improvements in grades, test scores, and how much it helps them not only go to college, but be successful in that environment.

Under the direction of Mr. Jason Sneath and Mr. Michael Pace, the overall program has grown every year of their involvement in the band programs. Mr. Pace & Mr. Sneath have been recognized by the National Band Association, GMEA and the Board of Advisors for the Dixie Classic as outstanding contributors to music education and excellence in music and are both clinicians around the southeast.
