PARENTS/STUDENTS:

Students will need access to their iNow/Chalkable Home Portal account to be able to access the online course request window. In order for all students to be able to access their account, we will have to reset the passwords. Usernames will remain the same. The passwords will be changed in the morning to a generic password. Students will be prompted when they meet with their counselor to change it to their student/lunch number, followed by “WILDCATS” in all caps. We ask that you leave the password as it is until we notify you that the process is complete. Starting from the time counselors meet with your child, there will be a window for you to login to the iNow/Chalkable Home Portal to review or edit your child’s elective request.

Once we finish this step, an advanced course request form will be sent home via social media accounts, as well as available in this newsletter. If you have any questions, please refer to the informational sheets that are attached to our Facebook page and emailed along with this message; or feel free to call the school.

If your child is a current sixth-grader, our counselors will begin this process with them during the later part of February.

**Course Selections begin!

  • It is that time of the year to Focus on the Future and begin selecting courses for next year! FHS staff will begin meeting with students the week of February 4th-8th.
  • During this time, students will go online with assistance from FHS staff in order to make their course selections in the online program. When students open their course selection page, they will see that regular math, English, science, and social studies courses have already been added to their requests. Selection of elective courses will be completed during this class time.
  • If students/parents want to request consideration for Advanced/Accelerated classes, they must complete the Advanced/Accelerated Course Request form which is available online or in the Counselor’s office. This form must be completed and returned by February 15th to the Counseling Office. If we do not receive this form, students will not be considered for advanced classes and will be in regular classes next year. Advanced classes will be added to student schedules after the applications have been received and reviewed.
  • Once students have entered their requests, parents will be sent home a copy of the requests to sign and return to the office. If a parent would like to meet regarding this, they are welcome to contact the school in order to schedule a time.
  • We will also host our annual Focus on the Future event on March 12th at 6:00 pm in order to follow up with questions or concerns regarding course requests.
  • We are excited about the new procedure and know that our students will experience a process that will be utilized throughout his/her secondary and postsecondary education.

If you have questions/concerns please call 205-379-3500 and speak with Dr. Robinson or one of the counselors, Mrs. King or Mrs. Laney.

Wildcat Advisory (JCAP)

Goal: Students will learn and discuss the purpose and importance of the Jefferson County Schools Advisement Program.

Why JCAP?

  • JCAP is a student advising system for middle and high school students. Students will receive school, career and personal advising.
  • JCAP bring students, school staff, parents, the community, businesses, and other organizations together to enhance each student's educational experience by connecting rigor, relevance, relationships, and results.
  • JCAP provides each student with an adult advisor who takes an interest in the student's successful learning, goal setting, career planning, and personal growth.
  • Each JCAP lesson provides a way to meet many JEFCOED standards, particularly life skills. These life skills include leadership, teamwork, ethics, accountability, adaptability, personal productivity, personal responsibility, people skills, self-direction, and social responsibility.
