History
United States History I: Beginnings to the Industrial Revolution
Pre-requisites: None
Chronological survey of major events and issues: colonization; American Revolution; development of political system and distinct culture; slavery; reform movements; sectionalism; Civil War; Reconstruction; Alabama's history and geographic changes that have influenced aspects of life during and after events. This course is appropriate for students interested in a wide range of postsecondary options.
AP US History I: Beginnings to the Industrial Revolution
(only recommended if you made an A or B in Advanced World History in 9th grade). Will require summer work. College Level Course.
Pre-requisites: Successful completion of world history, preferably at the advanced level
This course focuses on the development of historical thinking skills (chronological reasoning, comparing and contextualizing, crafting historical arguments using historical evidence, and interpreting and synthesizing historical narrative) and the development of students’ abilities to think conceptually about U.S. history from approximately 1491 to the early industrial movement. Students are expected, but not required, to take the AP US History II course. The AP Exam is taken at the end of the AP US History II course. This course is encouraged for students interested in pursuing postsecondary education at the two-year or four-year level.
Science
Physical Science (regular pathway; most students that took regular biology will take this course)
Pre-requisites: Completion of biology, any level
This course will satisfy the physical science requirement needed for graduation. This is a conceptual, inquiry-based course that provides students with an investigation of the basic concepts of chemistry and physics. Content standards covered in this course include matter and its interactions, forces and motion, energy and waves. This course is appropriate for students interested in a wide range of postsecondary options.
Chemistry (those in advanced math have the opportunity to take this)
Pre-requisites: Completion of biology, any level
This course will satisfy the physical science requirement needed for graduation. This is a mathematics-heavy course that applies mathematical concepts to chemical interactions. Content standards covered in this course include matter and its interactions, energy transformations, changes in matter, chemical reactions, stoichiometric calculations, etc. This course is appropriate for students interested in a wide range of postsecondary options.
Math
Algebra I with Probability
Pre-requisites: Successful completion of Geometry with Data Analysis or Advanced Geometry with Data Analysis
NOTE: FULFILLS ONE OF THE FOUR MATHEMATICS CREDITS REQUIRED FOR GRADUATION. Algebra I with Probability builds upon algebraic concepts studied in Grade 7 and Grade 8 Mathematics. It provides students with the necessary knowledge of algebra and probability for use in everyday life and in the subsequent study of mathematics. Algebra I with Probability is the second of three courses required for all students. Students may enroll in this course after completing Geometry with Data Analysis in Grade 9. Students who wish to accelerate their mathematics pathways in high school may also elect to enroll in Algebra I with Probability concurrently with Geometry with Data Analysis in the 9th grade.
Advanced Algebra I with Probability
Pre-requisites: Successful completion of Geometry with Data Analysis or Advanced Geometry with Data Analysis
