Please look out for emails from the team detailing the upcoming 'SENDing You More' Term 3 coffee morning and a parent-run ASD group.
SENDIA Award - SEND Inclusion Award
By Lyndsay Wing
The SENDIA award is a national award that helps schools identify, develop and celebrate outstanding SEND provision. So far we have collected feedback from staff, parents and students. The feedback informs our action plan going forward so we can evaluate the learning outcome of our students and gather evidence to achieve the award. The award will help JAS to develop high-quality SEND provision throughout the school by:
promoting awareness of SEND issues and inclusion for all staff, parents, pupils and governors
evaluating and improving classroom practice and interventions
focusing on pupil outcomes.
successful completion of the award will enable schools to:
gain recognition for high-quality education and care for pupils with special educational needs and disabilities
demonstrate to parents, governors, and inspectors that the school provision complies with current legislation and the SEND Code of Practice, and is effective in achieving good outcomes for all pupils.

Parent Feedback
As a department, we value parent feedback so that we can continue to develop and celebrate success.
Through working with JAS from FS1 till year 1, not only has my child had an ADHD diagnosis but me as a parent too. Now being able to have real first-hand experience of what my own child was feeling and now to understand how she feels on medication. It’s something I am so open to sharing with people and help other parents, if you ever do feel it can be useful.
It’s wonderful to hear about how JAS works and plans to keep working with students beyond primary into secondary. I’m super excited for my child to continue to grow & learn with the SEND JAS family.
Thanks again!
Shared with permission from Nikki Shearer - Yr 1 parent.
We would love to hear from you so please contact the department on the above emails.
SANAD Card for People of Determination
By Fiona Cameron
Dubai is intent on ensuring that People of Determination have a place in society and have benefits on offer for those with a registered disability.
We are all aware of how much therapy and prescriptions cost for our children who have needs and the benefits offered help to offset these costs. Here are some of the ones we have availed with my daughter’s POD/SANAD card):
50% discount on Etisalat (and Du) services (go into a store they do it there and then for you)
Exemption from Salik fee (apply on the Salik website)
Free entry for cardholders in public parks, Dubai Frame and Children’s City
Free entry to the IMG World of Adventure
Free entry to Emirates Park Zoo located in Abu Dhabi
Free entry to Museum of the Future plus carer
Free entry to Ski Dubai Snow Park plus carer
Free fast track pass for Motiongate plus carer (with regular ticket)
Free parking at Coca-Cola Arena - it is always worth asking as we have found many places will allow free or VIP parking when showing a SANAD card
Free entry to Global Village plus a carer
Free entry to Glow Garden
Free entry to Mangroves Walkway in Abu Dhabi plus a carer
Lots of places are now offering free or discounted tickets for POD on their websites so it is always worth checking these out. I have also found that it is worth phoning ahead if you are concerned about parking, queues or waiting times as most places we have visited are more than happy to facilitate my POD being fast-tracked through queues, etc (this can cause stress for my daughter).
More benefits can be found on the cda, gov.ae website Procedures for obtaining these benefits have changed over time and the best way to find the most up to date information needed to access these benefits are:

By Fiona Cameron
My daughter wears hers regularly, especially when travelling as it is recognised in most airports, including Dubai and helps other people be aware that she has an invisible disability.
In 2016, the Sunflower lanyard was designed and launched when London Gatwick Airport asked "How can we identify that one of our passengers may have a non-obvious disability?". Sunflower wearers now benefit more widely from help being offered to make their daily living a little easier:
When you choose to wear a Sunflower product, you are discreetly indicating to people around you that you have a non-visible disability and you may need additional support, help or simply a little more time.
You may find that people around you may ask what they can do to assist you, and you can use your Sunflower to tell people who are aware of the Sunflower about your individual access needs.
There is no qualifying list of invisible disabilities. If you have a non-visible disability, you can choose to wear the Sunflower to indicate that you may need additional support, help or simply a little more time. The Sunflower is not a pass to be fast-tracked nor does it entitle you for any other benefit.
You can collect a Sunflower Lanyard at Dubai Airport departures (you do not need to show any proof of disability):
Terminal 1 & 2 Departures: Before checking in, make your way to a screen with a sunflower displayed and approach the staff about getting the lanyard.
Terminal 3 Departures: You can collect the lanyard at the Departure Hall Info Desk located parallel to the departures entrance #2.

Fazaa Card - The Golden Discount Card
By Fiona Cameron
Once you have been successful at obtaining your child’s POD/SANAD card you can apply for the Fazaa card. The Fazaa card is the top-of-the-top discount card in the UAE and is only usually available for company employees who have joined the Fazaa scheme but registered PODs can apply for a card and receive the 2nd to the top tier discount level gold card. With the Fazza card you pretty much won't pay full price on anything again as it has discounts on everything from car hire to hotel stays to shopping and entertainment, medical services, coffee, food and much much more. And the discounts offered on tickets to places are often for up to 4 (or more) people.
We took advantage of their offer to get one at the Fazza Pavilion at Expo 2020, but now Expo has finished this card is a little more elusive to get.
You can contact the following to help acquire this card and it really is worth the effort for the rewards: If you are a People of determination card holder issued by #MOCD, download the "Fazaa" app and activate your card electronically to get the "Fazaa Himam" card.
