Job's Daughters International is a youth leadership and service organization for girls between the ages of 10 and 20. You may also hear it be called JDI or Jobies as shorthand. In JDI, girls learn the values of serving their community and country, public speaking, memorization skills, teamwork, scholarship, event planning, and so much more. There are many opportunities for members to get involved on a local, state, and international levels, allowing for a variety of experiences and memories.
JDI is the place for young girls to grow and transform into confident, strong women.
"Bethel" is the term used for local chapters within JDI. Bethels are given a number in the order they were created. This is used to identify what chapter you are with. It is a lot like "Troop" in Scout organizations.
The term Bethel originates from the Hebrew language and means "House of God." Other translations may also refer to Bethels as "Holy Place," "Refuge," or "Sacred Area."
The term "Ritual" is defined as a solemn ceremony consisting of a series of actions performed according to a prescribed order. This is true for Job's Daughters. The Ritual exists as our handbook. It outlines our Meeting Structure, Parliamentary Procedures, use of the Gavel, Voting signs, Order of Business, and more.
Once one becomes a member, they will be provided with a hardcopy of the Ritual. However, our Ritual can be found in the Library of Congress and on Amazon! It is available for anyone to read at any time.
While religious in nature, Job's Daughters only requires that members believe in a higher power. One of the values we teach is the importance of faith. There is no specific God or Power members must believe in to join. Members come from many faiths and religions, creating a diverse environment for young women to learn from one another.
