My name is Adelaide Anello, and as a current senior at Jamesville Dewitt High School, I decided to join the first Senior Capstone Course offered at the school. This course is designed to allow students to explore a topic of their choosing over the course of a year, and to create a final project at the end of the year. Growing up in the Syracuse community, I was constantly surrounded by inspirational women who have made an impact on the community, whether on a small or large scale. Having the opportunity to join campaigns at a young age, I was able to see what happens behind the scenes, and how much work candidates put into their election. While further pursuing my interests in politics and activism, I found that not many other people know what happens around their community politically, or ever what to look into. With my senior capstone project, I decided to address this confusion and create a website where young women in the Syracuse community can begin their interest in local politics, and look into where they can start. For my project, I was able to interview many women in our local area including Rachel May, Jen Schultz, Sarah Klee Hood, Rita Paniagua, Juanita Perez Williams, Caroline Gable, and Donna Moore. In school, Ms. Delaney aided me throughout the whole year and gave support through the progress of my project.Â
