6th Grade Band
The sixth grade band is composed of beginning band students - little to no experience. Students are not expected to be able to accurately perform on an instrument to join this class. The students will learn the proper playing techniques of their individual instrument including posture, hand position, embouchure, and other techniques unique to each instrument. The woodwind class consist of flutes, clarinets, and saxophones. The brass class includes trumpets, french horns, trombones, euphoniums, and tubas. At the beginning of the year there will be NO PERCUSSION in sixth grade band. Auditions for percussion will be held in December. Students who will be placed on percussion will demonstrate proper behavior in class, independent learning ability, and a natural ability on the percussion instruments. Until percussion auditions, sixth grade students will need to choose another instrument to build their musical abilities. Students who do not make percussion but still show a strong desire and work ethic will be considered for the section at a later time. For sixth grade band, students will need to have their own method book, instrument, pencil, and a sturdy folder to hold sheet music and handouts. Your students' band fee will cover the purchase of their method book, music binder, and band shirt.
7th Grade Band
The seventh grade band is composed of intermediate middle school band students. Most students in this class have been playing their instrument for at least a year. In addition to the instruments that were included in sixth grade band, students will now be able to try out for bass clarinet, bassoon, tenor saxophone, and baritone saxophone.
