How we started
The Jackson County Mountain Bike Team started in 2018 at Jackson County High School as an opportunity to provide a unique sport that focuses on building positive relationships through riding bikes and being outside. Our first season saw 10 riders and has steadily grown to over 25 riders and coaches. We exist to develop youth into capable and confident people. There are no try-outs, cuts, or the amount of kids who can race at one time. There is no bench on our team and sport. Everyone participates regardless of ability.

We exist to operate and support each other as a youth development program. We operate different that traditional sports as mountain biking is the means by which we seek to empower young people to get outside and develop positive healthy habits. Every rider gets to participate. Every rider is presented with challenges that match their abilities. While placing on the podium is a goal for some on our team, every rider should strive to finish the race. No Try-outs. No Cuts.
Mountain Biking is a great sport that provides challenges for riders of all abilities. We place riders into ability based groups with the opportunity to progress to more challenging groups as a rider develops into a more capable rider. Mountain Biking appeals to riders who do not fit in the traditional model of sports and do very well in our team dynamic.
You can earn a Letter in mountain biking while competing as a student at JCHS!
Practice
We start practices in early July. Our practice schedule is Tuesday & Thursday 6:00pm-8:00pm and Sunday 2:30pm-5:00pm
We are very fortunate to have a PRIVATE, purpose built trail system to practice on. The Fox Raceface trail system at Michelin Raceway at Road Atlanta is where we and several other local teams call home. This is located in the grassy field and wooded area to the right of the motorsports track. We practice with other local teams and use that synergy to enhance the experience for the child. Students are placed in groups based on riding ability and will be in a group with kids from other schools and teams. Not only does this help the child not feel out of place because they are faster or slower than the rest of the group, but it also enhances the the community aspect of what we do. Many of the greatest friendships that come out of our program are kids from different schools who practice together. They likely would have never met otherwise.
The Fox Raceface trail system is not open to the public and riders are not permitted on the trail outside of practice times and special events.
