Presentation Assignment

Create your slide presentation using the assignment in Canvas. Your presentation should include the following:

· Composer biographical information – birth/death dates, education. If part of a composing partnership (they usually work with one specific other composer/lyricist), make note of that.

· A list of the major musicals they have composed, and where this one falls in their timeline

· Any Tony, Grammy, or Drama Desk awards won – give the total number per award and then the specific award (i.e. 2 Tony awards for Best Musical and Best Score)

· Describe the plot (main story) of the musical; find pictures of professional productions online to highlight the presentation.

· Find audio/video clip from the musical that you feel represents the musical. Find one or two (if available – clear with Mrs. Broadhead)

· How long the musical played on Broadway – any famous cast members?

· How did critics receive the musical? What was the popular opinion?

Key ideas to remember when making your presentation:

· Do not cram your slides full of information. No more than 4-5 bullet points per slide.

· Don’t put everything in the slide – let the bullet point be a launch for a talking point.

· Many musicals have either started as a movie musical or become one since premiering on Broadway. Make sure your research is SPECIFIC to the BROADWAY STAGE production, not the movie.

· ONLINE RESOURCES: www.ibdb.com, www.broadwaymusicalhome.com; when searching for critical reviews, type this in Google search: NYtimes theatre review (your show) (your show's opening date).

· Avoid using light colors on white backgrounds when creating the slides. They are impossible to read.
