If an eLearning day is called, the Jay School Corporation will have a grace period in which students can turn in their homework. Students without internet or devices at home will have the chance to receive their work once we return to school. JSC is working with a group of Community Partners to allow students to use free internet to complete their work. So far, we have arrangements with the Jay County Public Library, Dunkirk Public Library, John Jay, and McDonald's.
Although some of the work may be submitted digitally, not all will be completed online. Teachers may ask students to complete an array of tasks that may or may not be completed with an electronic device.
In 2016, 6.3 million students were enrolled in online classes. Even during more traditional classes, assignments are submitted electronically. Most jobs in the workforce require technology skills, problem solving, communication and work ethic. eLearning Days will help foster these essential traits.
A student with special needs or accommodations will still receive the same help as before. During an eLearning Day, students and parents may contact their teachers to receive additional help, and the same rules documented in a student's IEP will be in place.
