In 1972, Washington and Jefferson College put together a constitution for WJCR. As seen in the picture, the overall purpose was to supplement and the assist the College in presenting a well-rounded educational environment. They broadcasted from the Student Center and completed a variety of equipment tests during this time. WJCR also applied for an emergency broadcast license / authorization in order to relay alerts.

There was a concern for the future of WJCR - FM because of the resignations of station General Manager, Dan Britton, and Program Director, Michael Johnson. The resignations came just over one year after the station began regular broadcasts as an FM facility. These men had guided the station operations and policies for a while and both left without giving a reason. However, Britton did express his displeasure at the failure of some station members to perform routine equipment adjustments correctly. The board members acted quickly and elected two sophomores, Andy Walker, as General Manager, and Dave Mateer, as Program Director.

The Student Government wished to revoke WJCR's charter and take them off the air due to a management policy (probably money). The Student Government forced them to cancel the order of the FM monitor. The following year's staff had to have broadcast permits and auditions first.

There was a break in at the station which set them back with over $130 worth of stolen equipment. The "break-in" happened at night but the next morning people found that the door was never locked allowing an easy "break-in". They found damaged equipment and a rearrangement of tools and furniture. Unfortunately, there is no documentation if anybody was caught.

WJCR was granted a license by FCC (Federal Communications Committee). The permit for W&J College was for a 10-watt non-commercial education FM broadcast station. This was the initial step to the licensing of a radio facility by the FCC, and it provided the principles involved to build a station according to the FCC rules and regulations. This permit expired August 1, 1981.

WXJX concerts fostered interests. Local stations helped grab the attention of students. They sponsored concerts such as heavy metal bands, Shroud and Skeleton on February 22, in the old gym. In hopes of the concert sparking interest and publicity for WXJX. For the college, interest in the radio station was strong at the beginning of the semester but dwindled towards the end. Students who were interviewed, reported that they felt there was not enough advertisement from the Communications Department about the radio station program. For example, they said there could have been more WXJX signs on campus. The radio station name changed to WXJX after WJCR but there is not a lot of information on when that change started or ended.
