What is Competitive Integrated Employment?
What is Competitive Integrated Employment?
The word “integrated” means having people with and without disabilities working together. “Competitive employment” means having a job where you are earning at least minimum wage, which is a competitive wage. So, CIE refers to a workplace where a person with a disability earns at least minimum wage, works with people without disabilities, and has the same pay, benefits, and opportunities for promotion as workers without disabilities.

WHAT IS SUPPORTED EMPLOYMENT?
It is a model of employment that provides people with severe disabilities the appropriate, ongoing support that is necessary for success in a competitive work environment. Most individuals in a supported employment program receive services from a community-based service provider. Generally, community-based service providers offer vocational assessment, locate or develop jobs, and provide job skills training. Most providers have job coaches who work at the job site and help the client learn job tasks, identify job modifications including assistive technology, and work with the employer to solve behavioral or social problems.
You must have the NOW/COMP waiver to receive funding for services from Happy Hour, Kay Center, Halo Group etc., otherwise, you will have to self-pay at approximately $50-75 per day for their support. Make sure you apply for the NOW/COMP waiver ASAP. See tab above on waivers for additional information on how to apply for the NOW/COMP waiver. The wait list is extremely long (6-7 years), so do not wait to apply for this waiver.

The Middle Georgia Consortium, Inc. is the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) grant administrator for the Executive Committee of Local Elected Officials (LEOs) and the local area business-led Middle Georgia Workforce Development Board (MGWDB). Baldwin County government serves as our fiscal agent and receives federal funding to support workforce development in our local area which includes Baldwin, Crawford, Houston, Jones, Monroe, Peach, Pulaski, Putnam, Twiggs and Wilkinson counties.
The Consortium has been assisting Middle Georgians since 1974 and has successfully helped thousands of individuals receive the education, training and support they need to begin successful careers and secure employment in the labor market.
