Q: What are the CE requirements for NC brokers?


Each license year (July 1–June 10), brokers must complete 8 hours of CE:

• 4 hours of a Commission-prescribed Update Course

General Update (GenUp) for brokers without BIC-Eligible status

Broker-in-Charge Update (BICUP) for brokers with BIC-Eligible status

• 4 hours of Commission-approved elective coursework

Q: Do I need to take CE the year I’m licensed?


No. If your license was issued during the current license year, you are exempt from CE for that year. You will need to meet CE requirements prior to your second renewal.

Q: Can I carry over CE credits to the next year?

Yes — but only 4 elective hours can carry over, and only if they were not used to meet your current year's requirement.

Q: What is the maximum amount of CE credit per course?


Each course is worth a maximum of 4 credit hours, per NCREC rules.

Q: Can I renew my license before completing my annual CE courses?


Yes. The annual license renewal period is May 15th-June 30th. License renewal is not contingent upon a broker completing their CE requirements.
