In Reading, we have been practicing making inferences and using evidence to support understanding. We are analyzing relationships between different groups in society and what their motivation is to do what they do. We are learning to practice our skills while reading about Native Americans.
In Writing, we have been composing argumentative essays where they are stating their claim and then supporting with three reasons and counter arguments. We have also been working to include an introduction and conclusion.
In Math, 5 grade students have moved into their final Module in the Eureka Progran. Module 6 covers gemetry & data analysis. The module is divided into three core topics.
Topic A introduces students to plotting points on a coordinate plane.
Topic B focuses on recognizing & using patterns for plotting points and drawing lines.
Topic C covers data representation & analysis.
In Science, we are pleased to inform you that we have successfully wrapped up all the required units for Grade 5 science. It has been an enriching journey filled with exploration, discovery, and hands-on learning experiences. From delving into the mysteries of the solar system to unraveling the complexities of ecosystems, our students have demonstrated remarkable enthusiasm and dedication to their studies.
To ensure a comprehensive understanding of the material covered thus far, we recently conducted a middle-of-the-year assessment. This assessment serves as a valuable tool to identify areas where students may benefit from additional support or review. Through this process, we aim to provide tailored guidance to each student, ensuring their continued academic growth and success.
Currently, we have shifted our focus to an exciting topic: natural resources. In this unit, students will delve into the fascinating processes that have shaped our planet over millions of years, particularly exploring the formation of sedimentary rocks and fossil fuels. Through engaging activities and interactive lessons, students will uncover the geological forces at play and gain a deeper appreciation for the Earth's rich history.
As we progress through this unit, we encourage you to engage with your child about their learning experiences. Ask them about the different types of natural resources, how they are formed, and their importance in our daily lives. Your support and involvement play a crucial role in reinforcing the concepts learned in the classroom and fostering a love for science.
In Social Studies, we have been learning to analyze the causes and effects of events prior to and during the American Revolution, including the taxation resulting from the French and Indian War and the colonist response to taxation such as the Boston Tea Party.
