Theatrix Apprenticeship Programme (TAP) Musical Theatre Storytelling Immersion Workshop is scheduled for July 8–12, 2025 at the Philip Sherlock Centre for the Creative Arts, UWI Mona.

This 5-day, fully interactive workshop offers students, educators and professionals a unique opportunity to engage deeply with musical theatre through hands-on creative practice. Participants will:

Explore the fundamentals of scriptwriting and storytelling
Understand the structure and form of musical theatre
Gain practical skills in essential stagecraft techniques

SCHEDULE

Day 1 (July 8): Imagine & Inspire!

Participants will use movement, games, and creative exercises to spark story ideas, build characters, and start world-building.

(Perfect for high school students and first-time creators.)

Day 2 (July 9): Building the Blueprint

Groups shape stories by developing characters, settings, and plot arcs.

(Ideal for CSEC students and early-stage writers.)

Day 3 (July 10): Musical Theatre Storytelling

Explore musical theatre forms, song types, and how music elevates story.

(Great for writers, performers, and tertiary-level students.)

Afternoon session for teachers only – free of charge

Day 4 (July 11): Apply Stagecraft Fundamentals

Participants dive into lighting, sound, stage management, and cue-to-cue rehearsals.

(Highly beneficial for those curious about technical theatre.)

Day 5 (July 12): Take Centre Stage!

Participants showcase their original work in a final performance for family, friends, and the JMTC community.

WORKSHOP COSTS

To make the programme accessible, workshop prices range from $3,000 per day to $10,000 for a full-season pass covering all eligible sessions. Additionally, teachers and institutions bringing five or more students may attend free of charge along with the five students.

Select participants will also be invited to contribute to a live JMTC production on Sunday, July 13, 2025, providing further real-world experience on a professional stage.

Who is this programme for?

The workshop is designed for high school students, CSEC-level students, tertiary students, theatre educators, aspiring writers, performers, and technical theatre enthusiasts.

Can I attend just one or two days?

Yes! Daily passes are available, though the full experience is most impactful when attended in sequence.

Are there special arrangements for teachers?

Yes! Teachers accompanying 5 or more students can attend for free, and there is a special free teacher-only session on July 10 focusing on integrating musical theatre into the classroom.
