[ What are the Importance of Mother and Baby Bonding ? ]

The relationship between the mother and the baby is crucial. In an experiment conducted in The Raising of America, which is a documentary that showcases that parenting is not the only thing that can effect a child's development. The show goes in depth about how if individuals prioritize a strong start for children the outcomes will allow for a thriving and healthier adulthood for these individuals.

The experiment that was showcased in the show outlined the importance of bonding between the mother and the child through mice. In this study one set of mice babies did not receive a lot of care from their mom as much as the other set of mice babies. In the long run as the first set grew up they became skittish. When the first set of mice babies and the second where placed in a location, the second set of mice started to explore the location. On the other hand, the first set of mice were not very brave and were timid about exploring their surroundings.

In this experiment, one can see that this problem and the side effects that come along with it can be fixed with the proper care from the mother or parents. While this experiment was shown in mice, this can be seen similarly in humans. Specifically, how the emotions and actions of the the parents can fall back onto the child.

[ Parent's Stress is Also The Child's Stress ]

Stress may seem as a negative idea but for a child to thrive, stress is important. Stress can come in three forms; positive, tolerable and negative.

Positive stress is an essential stress for a healthy development of a child. During these periods of stress, there is a brief increase in heart rate with a slight elevation in stress hormones. This could be seen in children from things such as presentations, meeting someone new (a care giver or nanny) , trying a new activey for the first time (going to the park or going to a friend's house) .

Tolerable stress holds more of an effect of the body's alert system. This also means that it can cause more long-lasting effects. An example of this kind of stress in a child is if they experience a frightening event or injury (broken bones), lossing a loved one (ex: a pet), or some type of natural event such as a hurricane or tornado.

Negative Stress can happen from a more prolonged stressor. A child's response to this stress can cause the child to have an increase change of developing a stress-related disease and cognitive impairment. Examples of this type of stress could be any forms of abuse (Physical and emotional), neglection, early exporse to violence, dealing with effects of economic hardships without someone else to lean on, a caregiver that has a mental illness or has substance abuse. (Toxic Stress, 2020)

Early childhood care is framed by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC). In these code some of the core values that these individuals must up hold too are:

• Respect to the diversity among children, families, and, and colleagues.

• Recognizing different cultures, communities and society

• Recognize that children and adults develop relationships based on trust and mutual respect

• Work reflects their knowledge of how children develop and learn

• Understand the childhood is a valuable stage of the human life cycle.

• Support the bond between the children and the family.

• Providing a safe and clean environment for children.

These standards are posted for child care centers to follow though it is not being enforecd throughout all the care centers in the United States. Improvements are still trying to be reached to uphold a quality learning environment for kids to perform at their full potential. Refering to the article called, Quality Thresholds, Features, and Dosage in Early Care and Education: Introduction and Literature Review, the authors examine how preschool children benefit more directly from early childhood care (ECC) that has high or above standard quality. This information was also found in the data collected in The Raising of America, which had a focus on the Perry Preschool.

In the Perry Preschool Study, the goal is to improve the the success rate of children that do not have as much advantages as those with higher socioeconomic statuses. This school is designed to break the link between poverty and the low success rates in school. Not only is poverty a large aspect of this study but so is the ethnicity of the children that are entered into this care.

The population that was being studied in the 1993 Perry Preschool was a group of African American children who were in poverty and at high risk for school failure. In this study the program group had a higher rate of graduation from high school compared to individuals who had the same background as them but without the program. Looking at the numbers, this was about 66 percent versus 45 percent from the individuals who were not in the program.

Using the Perry Preschool as a reference, having higher than average early childhood care in communities is etremely important. Not only does it help for a better family environment but can allow for the child to have a better life later down the road. These care centers help break the possible negative effects that can be possed from the living conditons of these children.
