I have a B.A. in English from the University of Minnesota and an M.A. in English, also from the University of Minnesota, with an emphasis in Writing/Composition. I also have an M.A. in Germanic Studies from Indiana University. I've worked (and occasionally still freelance) as a professional editor and translator. I've taught at the University of Minnesota, North Dakota State University, Moorhead State University, and Indiana University. In my 15 years at Ivy Tech, I’ve designed and taught many different writing and literature courses. I also sometimes teach German and I regularly teach the General Studies capstone. My husband Steve and I live in Bloomington and are the parents of three wonderful shelter kitties, Thistle (15), Brownie (11), and Molly (the "kitten with the heart of a mountain lion," now age 2). I'm active in the Society of Friends (Quakers). I enjoy reading, movies, music, walks, yoga, old MST3K episodes on Netflix, and the lost art of letter-writing.

Born and raised in Chillicothe, Ohio, I earned a BA in French and in Political Science at Miami University of Ohio, and went on to The Ohio State University for a Masters and a PhD in French literature and civilization, specializing in literature of the Middle Ages through the 17th Century.
I have lived in several states as a "trailing spouse," but continued to teach French in one way or another. I have taught students from 4 to 64 years old. Some of the institutions where I have taught are The Ohio State University (Columbus and Newark), Capital University (Bexley, Ohio), Indiana University NW, Purdue Calumet, Purdue North Central, and Ivy Tech Valparaiso/Gary/Michigan City/Bloomington. I currently teach full-time at a high school, and as an adjunct instructor at IvyOnline.
I have lived and studied in France and in Luxembourg. I love to travel and discover new places, so I have visited many different countries. Since my favorite place is always a warm beach, it is great to know that parts of France are located in the Caribbean and in Polynesia! In my free time, I read, cook, and play music (woodwinds and mallet percussion).

Howdy! My name is Felicity C. Knight and I look forward to having the pleasure of teaching y’all American Sign Language. I’ve been teaching ASL for over a decade and I specialize in teaching ASL online. You’ll find my classes in the evening as I am an ASL interpreter in addition to teaching. If you’re interested in a career using ASL, have a loved one you want to communicate with, or even dream of becoming an interpreter, my class will put you on the right path. If you’re willing to put in the work for a “somewhat difficult” class (as my past students have described it), you can be sure it’ll be worth being able to add “proficient in American Sign Language” after our time together.

I attended Appalachian State University where I earned a Bachelor’s in English and a music minor focused on clarinet performance. Between undergraduate and graduate work, I was the head waitress at Canton Restaurant, my family’s business, in Radford, Virginia. I moved to Bloomington in 2011 and earned my MFA (Master of Fine Arts) in Creative Writing, Poetry, at Indiana University in 2014. Since the completion of my graduate degree, I have taught Asian American Studies and English courses at IU, and I started my career at Ivy Tech as a writing tutor in the Student Success Center before transitioning into teaching Student Success classes. Both of these roles have been important to me because I was a first-generation college student who benefited from my university’s tutoring services. Now, I share time management strategies, help students to overcome reading and writing anxiety, and encourage them to use their campus resources. I joined Ivy Tech’s Department of English in 2019. I’m a native of the Appalachian region and identify as an AppalAsian, an Asian American from Appalachia. My poems have been anthologized in A Literary Field Guide to Southern Appalachia, Best New Poets 2014, and Anthology of Appalachian Writers, and have also been published in Pine Mountain Sand & Gravel, the minnesota review, Still: The Journal, Appalachian Heritage, Pluck!, and other journals. My poem “Searching for Wonton Soup” was the winner of Sundress Publications’ 2019 Poetry Broadside Contest. As a second-generation Chinese American writer, I aim to preserve and celebrate my family history and to raise awareness of AppalAsian experiences. I love music and fashion, and I also enjoy cooking and sampling all the delicious foods in Bloomington.

My academic achievements include a Master of Letters in the History and Archaeology of the Highlands and Islands of Scotland, three undergraduate degrees concentrating in social and historical studies, and study abroad. Internships involved Amerindian artifact and document research work for the Glenn A. Black Laboratory of Archaeology, as well as exhibit research and curation for the Monroe County History Center. As an instructor for the University of the People and as a private tutor and student instructor for history at Ivy Tech Community College Bloomington, I taught both American and international students. Through proprietorship of Musgrave Publishing, Consulting, and Photography, I published thirty-six books (fiction and non-fiction), am a bestselling ghostwriter, created The Hoosier Historian e-magazine, and What A WanderFull World travel blog. I have written for other publications as well, such as 812: The Magazine of Southern Indiana, and Hektoen International: A Journal of Medical Humanities. International consultation and review work for writers, actors, students, and teachers in Europe, North America, Africa, and Australia are also among my experiences.
With a strong work ethic and creative spirit, I am passionate in sharing a love for history, archaeology, and cultural anthropology with others. As a nontraditional student, a member of the Phi Theta Kappa International Honors Society, and The National Society of Leadership and Success, I understand the importance of establishing academic foundations, through each course to achieve student success.

I earned my B.A. in English from Indiana University back in the day and was awarded Phi Beta Kappa distinction. I worked in Human Resources for over 20 years and was HR Director of a small hospital in Indianapolis. I have also worked as professional writer, editor, and proofreader in my spare time. I took a break from the corporate ladder when my daughter was younger and worked as a Remediation Aide at her school, helping students with Language Arts skills. I realized I loved teaching but couldn’t foresee ever having enough energy to be a full-time educator of children, so I returned to school as a life-long learner and earned my master’s degree in Adult Education from IU. In addition to joining the Adjunct Faulty team here at Ivy Tech post-graduation, I have also worked as a tutor and am currently an I-SUCCEED Success Coach. Outside of the college setting, I have facilitated mindfulness workshops in the Bloomington area for learners of all ages. My teaching style embraces social constructivism, a fancy way of saying we learn more from each other than we ever will from a book. I have been married for as long as I can remember, and as mentioned above, have a wonderful now-teenage daughter who was adopted from China as a baby -- plus a spunky, quirky rescue dog named Magnus. I adore singing and also enjoy gardening, home design, and renovation.

I am originally from a suburb of Chicago and attended IU for a BA in Theatre and Drama. I met my husband at IU, started a family and started working at the IU Office of Admissions as part time help in 2005. I have been working there for 16 years now, 8 of which are with transfer students. As the Associate Director of Transfer Recruitment, I love having the opportunity to work with Ivy Tech students and more specifically TSAP students. Helping them finding their way to IU and knowing they are enriching our campus fuels my passion to help make their transition easier. In my spare time, I love being outdoors on our family farm just outside of Spring Mill State Park in southern Indiana. (Yes, I have made the hour commute every day just to work in the transfer world!)
