The Ivy Tech Bloomington's Mooresville location has partnered with Indiana Agriculture & Technical School (IATS) to offer IATS students the opportunity to gain hands on welding experience, complete a high school Welding Technology CTE Concentrator Pathway, earn college credit, and have the opportunity to test to earn American Welding Society certifications.
This program is only open to high school students attending Indiana Ag and Technical School (https://indiana.ag/).
Options for Students
Students can pick on of the following three options
Students just wanting the opportunity to earn an industry certification through the American Welding Society can do so in as little as two semesters. Students selecting this option must complete year one courses (see diagram below).
Students completing all courses in year one and year two on the diagram below will have the opportunity to test for three separate American Welding Society certifications and will also graduate (while still in high school!) with Ivy Tech's Structural Welding Certificate.
Students completing all three years in the pathway shown below will have the opportunity to test for three separate American Welding Society certifications and will also graduate (while still in high school!) with both Ivy Tech's Structural Welding Certificate and Welding Fundamentals Technical Certificate.
Students earning an Ivy Tech certificate are eligible to participate in Ivy Tech Bloomington's graduation ceremony, traditionally held in May at Indiana University Auditorium.
Students earning Ivy Tech's Structural Welding Certificate have earned 21 credits towards Ivy Tech's 60 credit Industrial Technology Associate of Applied Science Degree. Students earning the Welding Fundamentals Technical Certificate have earned 34 credits towards Ivy Tech's 60 credit Industrial Technology Associate of Applied Science Degree.
Information for Families
The majority of courses meet in Mooresville, Indiana.
The majority of the courses meet once a week in person, with additional course content being completed on-line by the student at their convenience each week. This means students in this pathway will need computer access to be successful.
Students are taught by credentialed Ivy Tech faculty, and earn college credits as they successfully complete courses (4 credits in fall of year 1, 6 in each of the remaining semesters)
Students wishing to complete year 3 of the pathway will need to complete Ivy Tech's free knowledge assessment placement "test". Information on that process would be shared with students during year two of the pathway.
Course tuition is subsidized by IATS and requires students to successfully complete each course. Please reach out to IATS to learn more about the cost of these courses. Please note, students must successfully pass a course to obtain the subsidized rate for that course, and must pass each course to be allowed to continue in the pathway.
Reach out to IATS to find out more about IATS's selection process. If the student is selected, IATS will provide an informational form you must complete for Ivy Tech.
Once you complete the Ivy Tech interest form, you will receive an email with details on next steps for the student to become a student in the Ivy Tech system then register for classes.
