The Theatre Arts Department typically does one musical and one play each semester, along with other performance opportunites throughout the academic year. Participation in backstage crew is open to all students and community members. Crew members are an essential part of the production team and serve as stagehands/deck crew, dressers, hair and make-up technicians, lighting operators, and audio/video technicians. No prior experience required.
HOW TO GET INVOLVED:
Crew assignments are determined through an interview process. Since our Fall shows will begin rehearsals in July, there will be a series of interview days/times available. Students interested in crew MUST attend a crew interview to secure a crew assignment. Anyone interested in crew opportunities but who are unable to attend the interviews should contact Professor Jessie Bender (jbender@ivc.edu) to work on securing alternative means for placement on a crew.
Interviews allow students to learn more about the Crew opportunities that are available during our season of productions, as well as for the faculty to meet students and learn about their interests and learning goals. You are welcome to drop-in for an interview, but you can also sign-up and let us know that you're interested in a crew position so we can better prepare for your interview.
Interviews are happening from 7:00-9:00pm on the following dates:
July 16 or 17, 2026 - for both shows
August 17 or 18, 2026 - for both shows
September 21, 2026 - only for A Midsummer Night's Dream

IVC Performing Arts Center Studio Theater
Performances September 10 - 19, 2026
From one of musical theatre's most renowned composers, Company is widely regarded as a musical that redefined Broadway in the 1970s by abandoning linear storytelling and focusing instead on a conceptual theme. This ‘concept musical’ follows Bobby on the night of a big birthday contemplating dating, marriage, friendship, and loneliness through a series of vignettes from dinners, drinks, dates, phone calls, and even a wedding.
Company features a brilliantly brisk and energetic score containing many of Stephen Sondheim's most famous known songs; and explores adult relationships with honesty, humor, and complexity. The strength of the piece lies in its vivid, flawed, loving, and relatable characters and their connections to each other. Through a simplified production concept and an orchestra of one piano, IVC’s production will focus on telling the stories of human beings seeking meaningful connection with themselves and each other.
A MIDSUMMER NIGHT'S DREAM
By William Shakespeare
Directed by Andy Sclafani-McCann
IVC Performing Arts Center Mainstage
Performances October 22 - November 1, 2026
William Shakespeare’s probably most well known and most produced comedy, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, combines magic, music, trickery, and iconic physical comedy moments, all tied together by some of Shakespeare’s most beautiful language.
The play tells the story of a young couple, Hermia and Lysander, running away from a controlling father, being pursued by two jealous rivals, Helena and Demetrius. As they escape into the Athenian wood, they catch the attention of Oberon, King of the Fairies, as well as his mischievous servant, Puck. Meanwhile, Oberon is embroiled in a plot of his own to trick his wife, Titania, Queen of the Fairies, out of her beloved servant boy. As the three plots of love and intrigue unravel, a group of hapless Athenian workmen fall into the mix while rehearsing a play for the Duke’s wedding day (at night). The play ends with four happy couples and the most memorable play-within-a-plays that Shakespeare ever wrote.
The production will include opportunities for young actors from Grades 4-8 who will be cast as members of the fairy ensemble. IVC Students will have the opportunity to serve as an acting mentor should they wish to support the young students involved in this production.
