Pavia is on the A7 motorway, 30 kilometers south of Milano Ring Road (tangenziale). The exit for Pavia is Bereguardo. There are several carparks just outside the city centre of Pavia. The building hosting the School fo Advanced Studies IUSS is in a restricted traffic zone and is not accessible by car.
by airplane
The town of Pavia does not have its own airport. It is served by the two Airports in Milano, Linate and Malpensa, or by the airport of Orio al Serio (Bergamo).

From Milano Malpensa Airport there is no bus service direct to Pavia. There is a daily bus service, Malpensa Shuttle, connecting Terminal 1 and Terminal 2 to Milano Central Station (Milano Stazione Centrale) or Milano Bovisa and from there you can take a train to Pavia. Pavia is on the Milano – Genova railway line: there is a frequent train service from Milano Centrale to Pavia. The trip takes approximately 30 minutes.
