University High School nominates students to take part in several summer leadership programs, competitive science opportunities, and scholarships. These programs require a school nomination to apply. Students applying for a nomination must first fill out a UHS application and the awardees are chosen by the UHS Scholarship Committee which is comprised of teachers and staff. UHS nominates for the following programs:
Hugh O'Brian Youth Leadership (HOBY): 10th grade
Boys & Girls State: 11th grade
Girls State: 11th grade
Simons Summer Research Program: 11th grade
Pepperdine Youth Citizenship Seminar: 11th grades
Exchange Club Youth of the Year Scholarship: 12th grade
