I was born and raised in Santa Ana, California. My parents immigrated from Jalisco, Mexico, so I grew up speaking both English and Spanish fluently. I even got to live in Mexico for an entire year, where I learned to ride horses and live on a ranch! In my free time, I love cooking and hiking with my husband. We adopted a cat named Padawan (which means Jedi student), and we love to give him belly rubs. :]
Growing up, I participated in several music programs, including orchestra, drumline, and band. I was also fascinated by the arts and painted my first school mural when I was 12 years old! To this day, I still enjoy drawing, painting, digital design, and video editing. Because of this, I love integrating music, art, and technology into our classroom and cannot wait to see and be inspired by your artistic creations this year!
As an undergrad, I attended UCLA, majoring in Psychology and minoring in Cognitive Science. During my time there, I worked for the UCLA Infant Development Program as a student teacher and learned to care for babies as young as 2 months to 2 years old (lots of diaper changes). Following graduation, I began working as an applied behavioral analysis (ABA) therapist for children with autism across Orange County. Shortly after this, I began to work for the Santa Ana Unified School District as a high school special education paraprofessional, a P.E. instructor, and then an afterschool site coordinator for over 200 (K-8) students!
Because of these experiences, I realized that working with and mentoring students was my passion, motivating me to return to school to obtain my teaching credential from California State, University of Fullerton (CSUF). After graduating, I immediately started working as a 4th grade teacher and then as an IB/Honors English teacher for grades 9-11. Shortly after, I was incredibly lucky to help open IUSD's newest school Cadence Park School in 2018! While working at CPS, I finished my Master's Degree in curriculum and instruction.
In 2022, I married my husband, Mr. Drulias, who is a high school teacher. Last year we welcomed our baby boy, Theo, and he has completely stolen our hearts. I’m a little (okay, a lottle!) obsessed with him.
I love learning new things, and I believe school should be a place where we grow, challenge ourselves, and support one another. I can’t wait to learn and have fun together this year!
With gratitude, always,
Mrs. Drulias
