Students have access to the Library Media Center with their teacher during a scheduled time, before school from 8:00-8:30AM, or during lunch (Middle School only).
Students may check out books during library time (PK-1st: 1 book/wk; Gr. 2: 2 books/wk; Gr. 3-8: 3 books/wk).
Additional books may be permitted for school assignments with teacher approval.
Students are responsible for keeping their books in good condition.
Books that are checked out need to be returned before new books can be checked out (up to grade limit).
Students will receive a paper overdue notice during their weekly class visits.
Promptly report any lost or damaged books for fine assessment.
If a library book is lost or damaged beyond repair (including water damage), families are expected to pay for the replacement cost of the book. We will provide a receipt of payment.
Per District policy, books purchased new or used from another source will NOT be accepted in lieu of fines.
If a fine is paid for lost material and that material is returned in its original condition within 90 days and in the same school fiscal year in which the fine was paid, the student or parent may request a refund. For more information from the district please click here.
Students with lost or overdue books are not permitted to check out until the book has been returned or the fine has been paid.
Parents can pay the fines on MySchoolBucks

Students have until the end of the week to report any damage that was done before the student received the material.

A student should never try to repair damage to a textbook - if a student waits to address the problem, the student will be responsible for the worsening of the book’s condition.
If a student still has a fine or an overdue book on their account by the time they leave Cadence Park at the end of 8th grade, they will not receive priority registration for classes as a freshmen at Portola High School.
