Writing Practice Ideas:

How do we get better at writing? Practice! The only way to improve is to write, write, write!

  • Journal Prompts: Have your student write in a journal everyday. Give them a creative topic, or just simply have them write about what happened during their day. They should be writing complete sentences, have capitalization, punctuation, and careful spelling. Allow for mistakes and keep this writing time a safe space to get comfortable with written expression.
  • Our three purposes for writing in 3rd grade are to entertain (narratives-real or imagined), to inform (factual, informative writing), and to persuade (opinion writing, supported by reasons and evidence).
