Survival Training, or survival architecture, refers to the design approach that focuses on creating buildings and spaces that can withstand and adapt to extreme or challenging conditions, such as natural disasters, environmental hazards, or other emergencies. The goal is to ensure the safety and well-being of occupants and to increase the building's resilience in adverse situations.
Approaches implemented by survival architecture aims is to create buildings and spaces that can withstand and adapt to extreme conditions, ensuring the safety and well-being of occupants. Several key approaches are employed in survival architecture:
Resilient Materials: Using strong and durable materials to construct buildings, such as reinforced concrete and steel, enhances their ability to withstand external forces and potential hazards.
Redundancy and Layering: Incorporating redundant systems and layering critical functions within the building ensures continued operation even if certain components fail or are damaged.
Passive Design Strategies: Utilizing passive design principles, such as natural ventilation, daylighting, and thermal mass, reduces energy consumption and enhances occupant comfort during emergencies.
Disaster-Resistant Techniques: Implementing specific design techniques tailored to the region's hazards, like base isolators for earthquake-prone areas or elevated foundations for flood protection, strengthens the building's resilience.
Emergency Evacuation Planning: Designing safe and efficient emergency evacuation routes and exits ensures a swift and organized evacuation of occupants during crises.
Off-Grid Capabilities: Integrating renewable energy sources and self-sustaining systems allows the building to function independently from the grid during emergencies, ensuring continued operation of essential services.
Multi-Functional Spaces: Designing spaces with multiple functions enhances the building's adaptability and usability during various scenarios, enabling it to serve different purposes as needed.
Aquatic Survival and Flood Rescue training consists of survival swimming lessons, rescue swimming, dry and wet lifesaving techniques in swift water, motor boat operation, rescue with rescue boat and complete first aid for aquatic emergencies.
It has been specially designed for professional flood and disaster management e.g for national, states and districts disaster management organisations.
A space in the resilient flood centre where people can learn and practice evacuation routes, shelter plans, and flash flood response.
