ENRICO MALATESTA
Sound Connection*
The workshop investigates sound as a viscous, relational phenomenon emerging from interactions between propagation media (air, water, materials), environmental configurations, objects, and perceptual processes. The research underpinning it is developed within the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM) and Bosque de Chapultepec in Mexico City, adopting an ecological approach to sound art.
It examines how physical properties of media and territorial morphology shape acoustic variability and transformation. Listening is redefined as an embodied epistemic practice, revealing the co-constitution of body, environment, and sound. Through a situated methodology, the workshop frames listening as a critical and projective resource for engaging ecological sonic
complexity.
*The research project is granted by the Direzione Generale Creatività Contemporanea of the Italian Ministry of Culture within the framework of the Italian Council program (14th edition, 2025), aimed at promoting Italian contemporary art internationally.
Enrico Malatesta is an artist working across experimental practices between music, performance, and sound-based research. His work investigates the relationships between sound, space, and body, focusing on listening, material vitality, and an ecological approach to percussion. He has presented internationally at venues including Blank Forms, Gulbenkian Foundation, Bourse de Commerce, Biennale di Venezia, Onassis Stegi, Munch Museet, Pirelli HangarBicocca, and MAM-Rio. He also teaches and mentors, collaborating with institutions such as Università Iuav di Venezia, ISIA Pescara, and Triennale Milano. He is a Shape+ Artist 2025, Italian Council 2025 awardee, and “Una Boccata d’Arte” 2026 selected artist.
LAURA PANTE
The Dance of the Background: Body, Habitat, and
Critical Fabulation
The workshop offers a practice-based exploration of the figure–ground relationship as a perceptual device, engaging the interplay between the body and the space of representation. Through movement practices, observation, and performative writing, it encourages reflection and the development of compositional toolsthat allow memory and critical fabulation to cohabit ecologically. The process unfolds through embodied overlays of stratified temporalities and the shaping of multispecies alliances among bodies, spaces, materials, and stories. The workshop is open to those interested in cultivating embodied modes of reading space and engaging with the ethical and ecological dimensions of inhabiting.
Laura Pante (1983) is a choreographer, dancer, and researcher. Her practice operates at the intersection of pedagogy and artistic research, with a particular focus on the relationships between the body, modes of transmission, and the space of representation. In 2025, she earned a PhD in Architecture, City and Design from the Università Iuav di Venezia, with a dissertation titled Ground, Landscape, Habitat: Three Modes of Relating Presence, Body, and the Virtual. She leads workshops and seminars on somatic practices and choreographic writing across universities, festivals, and artistic research programmes, developing pedagogical frameworks that foster embodied and situated forms of knowledge.
EXTRAGARBO
What guides walking are the relics of meaning — and
sometimes their waste, their inverted remains
‘Restanze’ is a workshop conceived as a situated experience that activates bodies in relation to the landscape and its negative. Through urban drifting, an imaginative reconnaissance of ghost-sites in public space, it produces affective cartographies of the city.
The workshop unfolds as a performative exercise, proposing an exploration score that invites participants to move through space while attuning their gaze to the fields of force that traverse and haunt it. The work consists in identifying a circumscribed element—an architecture, an object, an urban threshold—capable of materializing this tension within a speculative rewriting of the environment.
Extragarbo is an artistic and curatorial collective founded in Venice in 2019. Actually composed of Cosimo Ferrigolo, Gaia Ginevra Giorgi, Edoardo Lazzari, and Giusy Guadagno, Extragarbo stems from the desire to create a shared research and experimentation across performing and visual arts. Its practice spans performance, theatre, curatorship, and theoretical and workshop-based inquiry, producing hybrid formats such as site-specific works, participatory projects, self-education platforms, and festivals. At the core of its activity are themes such as the status of artistic labor, the relationship to public space, the construction of communities through situated practices, and self-education as a political act.
