Classroom Monitor Permit Processing Steps
STEP 1
To begin, your organization will collect all necessary information verifying that the Classroom Monitor candidate being recommended for a Classroom Monitor Permit (Type 09) has met the requirements below and, to the extent your organization is not already providing IU13 with the documentation below, all such documentation will be made available and will be provided to IU13 upon request.
The Classroom Monitor Candidate:
Has completed at least 60 semester hours or the equivalent of courses at a regionally accredited college or university located in Pennsylvania OR has at least three years of experience as a paraprofessional in a school entity and is currently employed as a paraprofessional in a school entity;
Meets pre-employment requirements for background clearances, citizenship, and good moral character under the school code and Child Protective Services Law;
Is the minimum age of 25 years;
Has completed a PDE-approved classroom management training provided by an intermediate unit
STEP 2
Your organization will instruct eligible Classroom Monitor applicants to:
Complete online Classroom Management training and submit their certificate of completion to your organization; AND
Initiate the permit process through Pennsylvania Department of Education’s online Teacher Information Management System (TIMS) using the instructions provided by IU13 (see Supporting Documents and Information section below); AND
If applicable, request official, sealed college/university transcripts to be emailed to IU13 at emerpermitsSOS@iu13.org
If necessary, transcripts can be mailed to Lancaster-Lebanon IU13, ATTN: HR-Emergency Permits,1020 New Holland Avenue, Lancaster, PA 17601
STEP 3
Upon receipt of transcripts, IU13 will place the transcripts in the Transcripts folder on the secure and confidential IU13 Extranet Site with simultaneous notification to your organization (see Supporting Documents section below for How to Access Your Classroom Monitor Files).
STEP 4
After all required documents/information have been obtained by organization, your organization will complete and submit an online Classroom Monitor Affidavit at iu13.org/CMaffidavit.
STEP 5
Upon receipt of an affidavit and verification of required transcripts, IU13 will apply for a Classroom Monitor Permit (Type 09) through TIMS.
STEP 6
When IU13 receives the emergency permit from PDE, IU13 will add the permit to the Classroom Monitor folder on the IU13 Extranet Site with simultaneous notification to your organization.
STEP 7
IU13 will issue monthly invoices for permit processing fees at the rate of $40/permit.
