Join Intermediate Unit 1 (IU1) for these innovative student competitions! Student competitions are open to middle school and high school students in Fayette, Greene, and Washington Counties. More information including event details, registration, and competition guidelines will be released closer to the event date. Powering Pittsburgh

Teams of students can compete in the Powering Pittsburgh Competition for a Pittsburgh Steelers Prizes and a monetary donation to your school (this off of past competition awards and are subject to change for the 2021 competition)! Students between 6th - 8th grade and 9th - 12th grade in Allegheny, Beaver, and Washington Counties are eligible to participate.

Governor's STEM Competition

Join in February 2022 for the Regional Governor's STEM Competition. Teams of up to five high school students from Fayette, Greene, and Washington counties are tasked with the challenge of using their STEM skills and knowledge to solve a problem in their community.

Media & Design Competition

Join us for the PA Media and Design Regional Competition at the IU1 Central Office on March 15, 2022. The PA Media and Design Competition, formerly the PA Computer Fair, is an annual event that highlights Pennsylvania students’ application skills, creativity and knowledge. Students are able to unleash their creativity, learn how to convey information more dynamically, and enhance the learning process.

STEM Design Challenge featuring K'Nex

The STEM Design Challenge is a competition for students in grades 4-8 where they build a project out of K’Nex pieces. Teams in grades 4-5 and grades 6-8 will only be able to use only K’Nex pieces.

Teams will have from November 2021 to March 25, 2022 to build their projects. Two teams per school are able to participate with a max of four students per team.

What If: A Gifted Super Saturday Event

On November 13th ESU's Special Education and Rehabilitation Department will be hosting a Super Saturday Gifted event for all gifted students between the grade levels of 2nd to 8th grade.

Please note that the first 32 students will be accepted. Anyone after that first 32 will be added to a waitlist. Registration will end on October 25th.
