At the moment, my academic goal is to finish my nursing degree and become a registered nurse. I chose this career in order to make a difference in the lives of patients. Nursing allows me to provide crucial care, comfort, and support to individuals in need, which gives me great happiness. My experiences at my internship site strengthened my interest in this profession, and I am confident in my career choice. This year, I intend to concentrate on succeeding in my nursing courses in order to have a solid foundation of knowledge and abilities. To make sure I'm ready for a successful nursing profession, I'll make it a priority to keep learning and changing with the times.
My internship experience has unquestionably validated my desire to work as a registered nurse, which is in complete alignment with my academic objective of earning my nursing degree. My commitment to improving the lives of patients has grown as a result of this practical experience, which supports my professional decision. I am more sure in my direction and committed to achieving academic excellence to provide the groundwork for a successful nursing career than I have ever been.
It is essential for me to get direct experience to clinical settings as I move towards a profession in healthcare. This experience will assist me in understanding the dynamics of patient relationships, developing critical thinking in medical circumstances, and laying the groundwork for my future jobs in hospitals and healthcare organizations. To reach my goal I need to actively participate in patient care, see medical processes, and do them.
UPDATE: Now that I've accomplished my first goal, I can't wait to learn more about different healthcare fields. My internship let me realize the variety of potential in the healthcare industry. The intensity and complexity of critical care particularly appeal to me. My next course of action is to look for positions in specialized fields, like the intensive care unit, where I can improve my clinical expertise and take on the complex problems that come with working in the medical field. This strategy will help me succeed in the ever-changing healthcare industry by broadening my perspective and improving my knowledge.
A good understanding of medical language, as well as excellent communication skills, are required for providing safe and high-quality patient care, which will help me achieve my long-term goal of becoming a nurse practitioner. To meet this goal I need to effectively practice communication with healthcare professionals, do medical records, and interact compassionately with patients.
UPDATE: My educational path and internships have greatly enhanced my communication skills and comprehension of medical terminology, both of which are essential for providing high-quality patient care. My practical knowledge and use of medical language have been much enhanced by interacting with patients and healthcare professionals. Though there are often difficulties fully understanding complex vocabulary, learning the wide range of medical phrases is still a work in progress. My next steps to address this will be to seek more practical experience in various clinical settings and to make use of extra learning resources like medical dictionaries and online courses.
As a future nurse, I must have a solid medical knowledge foundation. I will be better prepared to pursue higher medical education by continuously monitoring and critically evaluating medical processes. I can do that by observing treatment plans, engaging in thoughtful discussions, and asking questions to deepen my understanding.
UPDATE: As I work toward being a future nurse and laying a strong medical foundation, I enjoy acquiring knowledge by doing critical analysis and observation. I've learned more from having conversations and seeing medical procedures. This goal remains ongoing, nevertheless. I want to gain more practical experience and broaden my knowledge in a variety of medical fields in the future. This approach to continual learning is essential to my development and preparation for graduate-level nursing education.
I've expanded my network, gotten possible employment offers, and obtained the healthcare experience I was hoping for through my internship since submitting my LHSI application. My major objective is still to become a nurse practitioner and work in a hospital after graduation. I'll continue working toward my nursing degree this summer and for the remainder of my time at IUPUI. I'll look for student nursing jobs in a variety of healthcare settings to advance my knowledge and abilities in order to fulfill my professional goals.
Fall 2024 Goals: My career goals have stayed the same. I’ve always known that I want to become a nurse practitioner and work in a hospital, ideally in OB. In five years, I see myself practicing as an NP, providing care to patients during one of the most important times in their lives. I want to be someone who is not only skilled and knowledgeable, but also kind, calm, and dependable. To get there, I’m continuing to stay focused on nursing school and committed to graduating. I'm working hard every day to make that goal a reality. I know it takes dedication, and I'm ready for that. Through my experiences, I hope to make a meaningful impact on patients by being someone they can trust and feel supported by especially during vulnerable or emotional moments. I also want to inspire other students like me who are balancing a lot but still pushing toward their dreams.
Update 2025 spring: While I originally planned to become a nurse practitioner, my goals have started to shift. I’m now strongly considering pursuing a CRNA (Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist) path. I’ve been doing research and looking into the requirements and programs to better understand what that journey would look like. My next step is to start looking into school, attending info sessions, and preparing early so I can plan my path forward. My overall goal remains the same to care for patients in high-impact moments, stay focused in school, and keep pushing forward to achive my passion.
The internship has expanded on my prior thought by helping me better grasp the practical significance of my nursing major and courses. In addition to strengthening my academic understanding, the practical experience I've received from providing direct patient care, participating in clinical decision-making, and solving problems has also increased my confidence in using these concepts in real-life situations.
Since the fall, I've improved my independence in clinical tasks. I am able to carry out activities like blood draws and vital sign monitoring with confidence and know when to call for help when necessary. My goal is to become more reliable in terms of attendance and punctuality. I also intend to better manage my calendar and share any changes with others. I've continued to ask for help and clarification, making use of my communication and cooperation skills to create a collaborative atmosphere. This collaborative approach to self-improvement highlights my growth on both a personal and professional level.
Throughout my nursing internship, I've worked hard to improve my communication and teamwork abilities. I regularly converse with other nurses, asking for advice and clarification when necessary, which has increased my self-assurance in completing my responsibilities. The one that I would most like to keep improving is independence. Although I am capable and have the expertise to complete jobs on my own, I don't always fully trust my abilities. In order to get past this, I intend to create achievable goals that will enable me to gradually increase my trust in my ability for decision-making and problem-solving. Regarding how the internship has improved my understanding of my nursing coursework and major, I've gotten firsthand experience for the practical applications of my academic learning. In the end, truly bringing my education to life.
