Japan has struggled with cyber security incidents recently. Japan recorded 9875 cybercrime cases 2020 and 12,209 cybercrime cases in 2020. According to National Police Agency in Japan, the amount of money lost through damages caused by online banking fraud in 2019 was 2.52 billion yen and it was from 1872 online banking fraud cases. Moreover, cyberbullying incidents among students reported by schools in Japan in 2021 were 21,900 cases while it was 7,855 cases in 2012. Bullying among students was a very long issue that was not solved in Japan.
The importance of cybercrime and cyberbullying is that as technology advances, so do cybercrime and criminals. Japan is one of the countries that put efforts on cybersecurity and making regulations. Even though their efforts, cybercrime, and bullying case have increased. Moreover, their cultural value “honne” (will be discussed in next page) and cyberbullying is very contrasting and ironic. This concept can be solved by learning more about Japanese culture and their value.
Nowadays, people put their personal information on the internet for convenience but it can be exposed by cyber phishing. Should people sacrifice comfort to avoid cybercrime and how to middle-aged Japanese can avoid this? Also, should the Japanese continue their cultural value “honne” which is causing cyberbullying at the same time? If so, how they can do that?
