I am currently a sophomore at Indiana University- Purdue University Indianapolis and am majoring in forensic and investigative sciences, biology, and chemistry, and minoring in anthropology. I am currently not going for anything pre-professional or certificates, but do plan on getting my master's. My main major is the forensic and investigative sciences major, which is a major path that involved taking a lot of chemsity and biology classes along with some forensic classes in order to gain a good understanding of forensics and science as a whole. I chose to take this path because science was always my favorite subject to learn about and I was really good at it, which made me want to pursue it more. I really like taking these types of classes and bonded with my mother over our love of true crime. We didn't watch any TV shows about it, more podcasts and books, and it was a big part of my childhood, leading me to want to continue learning about it and hopefully find a career I love in this field. That is the main reason I am taking this path and I can't wait to see where it takes me.
I believe I have many strengths as a team member that I have gained throughout my time in school and from my past responsibilities. I have worked two part-time jobs in the past, one where I was on a large team and one where I worked more independently, and I have been a part of many school organizations and some executive boards of clubs. Through these experiences, I have gained skills in teamwork, communication, taking responsibility, listening, taking charge, organization, problem-solving, and learning how to find more confidence in myself to complete my tasks in the best way that I can. I like to believe that I am someone who applies these skills well, while being a fantastic team member in the past, and I hope to improve upon these skills in the future.
I hope I was a good team member this year. I feel like I was, I have done everything that was asked of me, stayed longer some shifts, asked others if they needed help, and tried to be very flexible. My role over the year changed in that I was able to take on more responsibilities and tasks and act more independently, with more confidence in my abilities here. As a professional, I am someone who has gained a lot of skills, but also still have a lot to learn. I have learned many things about when to ask questions, the type of questions to ask, how to work on my own, how to speak with patients, and how to work efficiently. I have grown into this role through experience and taking on more tasks to make myself mroe confident and knowledgeable about my skills.
Ski Resort of Perfect North Slopes:
I have quite a bit of experience, I have worked at Perfect North Ski Resort, a job where I was a part of a large team, a Blimpie sub shop, where I would mostly work alone, and I volunteered for Great Parks, a national park service. I think I have gained many good skills through these organizations, such as communcation, wokring indepenently, teamwork, organization, time management, and being proactive. I think all of these skills are alike in that you need them in order to complete the tasks promised of you efficiently in order to keep the organization running smoothly and require the person performing them to understand what they need to do and to be responsible about it. I really like smaller tasks that I can just work through, I like being given many simple things versus a few large things to do. I also learn more hands on, so I often need to be walked though things multiple times. I can become more confident and and more efficient this way, as I am more focused and more encourgaed to do the tasks. I definitly need to work on my confidence and organization outside of these situations though, I can't just expect thigns to be handed to me. I need to learn to be more proactive on my own and gain more confidence in what I can do on my own.
I think my new skills that I have gained included increased confidence and communication skills, and my ability to act independently. I probably need to grow more in my confidence and communication as well, along with my skills in time management and planning. I have done a few other things this yera such as mentoring and volunteering which have also helped me grow in very similar ways. I have learned more about connecting with others, listneing to them, and taking on repsonsibilties within my skill set but also not overstepping.
