I want to be able to grow in my role as a Research Assistant. I want to be able to understand the different roles that I have as a Research Assistant. i.e doing interviews, filling out surveys, using Outlook, Asana, Redcap.
This will take time I have to gain more experience with working witht these different data bases, I already have exposure because I use them to complete the work assigned to me by my supervisor, but I know that I can improve.
Do more research on Humanpapillomavirus and what it is and how it affects people. What ways help prevent hpv, what safety precautions that someone would need to take if they contracted the virus.
Do more research myself, my supervisor also sent me a dcoument that can help inform me of what the hpv study that I'm working on is about, I can also refer back to this when I'm unsure, I can ask more questions if I'm unsure of something.
I want to be able to demonstrate basic office skills and apply those skills to other projects and situations with limited supervision.
This will also come with more experience, especially now that I work remote the office skills would apply if I was in person, but because I'm still learning I know that asking questions is what will help me be able to work more independently.
Understand research, and lab etiquette and work towards being able to work independently.
This goes hand in hand with my goal for number three, I will be able to start working more independently the more experience that I have. I have come along way from where I started like I mentioned earlier there is always room for improvement.
Use professional behavior and practices in the workplace, including demonstrating professional communication and applying problem-solving skills.
I don't think this will be much of a challenge because it's easy to adapt the culture of the workplace.
Other Goals for Professional Growth
I want to be able to manage my time better, this is something that I've always struggled with and now that I have homework and assigned work for the internship I feel like this is an area that I need to improve on.
I want to build communication with other employees and interns at the jobsite and through the LHSI program.
I want to get a job that provides me with hands on experience working in the healthcare field. This will allow me to see patient care from another perspective.
Somethings that I need to do this semester in order to reach my goals is to become more organized so that I can be more productive. I struggle with feeling overwhelmed and always creating to-do lists in my head. I believe getting a planner and writing out my tasks for the day and for the week will be helpful for me. I like using sticky notes to also help remind me of different meetings that I may have for the week and I also use my calendar in my phone to help keep track any important events. I think some other skills and experiences that I need to gain is more hands-on/in-person experience. I haven't been able to work in person for the duration of my internship and I believe that this will help me gain more experience.
My goals haven't changed much from what I wrote on my LHSI application, infact they have expanded even more with the experiences that I have obtained from my internship. I still want to go to nursing school and work with community outreach programs dealing with different concerns that may plague certain communities. A huge career goal of mine is getting into nursing school. One way that I can break this task down is first making sure that I have all the required coursework completed in order for me to apply. Next, I know that I have to retake physiology, so I need to create a plan of action to help me pass this course. The first thing that I want to do is create a study schedule for myself. Asking for help is also another that I can help myself be successful. Joining mentor sessions and also attending hours at the BRC will be helpful. Studing two weeks if not more ahead of time will also be able to help me digest the information while studying. By this time next year I want to start my first year of nursing school.
