About Me

I am currently a Junior in the IUPUI School of Science and Honors College studying to obtain a Bachelor of Science in Biological Chemistry, ACS Certified. Along with that, I am minoring in Spanish. Ever since I was little, I have loved science. I really enjoyed learning about how the world works around me, both on a micro and a macro scale. My love for chemistry specifically was developed by my organic chemistry courses. They were by far some of the most challenging courses that I have taken, but they were also some of the most rewarding as well. The reason for this is because of the amount of time that I put into learning the material for the class. The work I put into the class paid off, and I was able to see it. In addition to this, chemistry is all around us, especially in our own bodies. In my organic chemistry classes, I was able to see how the foundations of organic chemistry could eventually lead to an understanding of different biological processes. The labs in these classes also fascinated me due to its ability to connect the theoretical material learned in lecture with the experiments done in labs.

Working as part of a team, a good team member is expected to have communication skills. This makes information flow between team members seamless and allows for more productivity than if lack of communication existed. In addition to this, a good team member should be receptive to communication as well, whether it be feedback or simply information that pertains to them and other team members. By being receptive to this communication, the team member is able to grow and help others grow towards accomplishing the goals they have set for themselves. Another important quality for a team member to have is respect/understanding. By viewing fellow team members with a mutual respect and understanding, a good team member is able to recognize where a fellow member might need help, or where they might be providing an innovative addition to work already being done. Working as a team member in the past, I have been able to develop these specific qualities and skills and use them to be a valuable asset to any team. As I continue to obtain experience in various areas, I also hope to refine and improve these skills and others that make me a better team member.

I value treating every experience I have as a learning experience, so that I can continually work to better myself and the work that I do. For this reason, I believe that the aforementioned qualities of a good team member as well as working hard to learn from past experiences are extremely important in any professional work.

As a professional, I believe that I am a hard-working individual who helps to support others while successfully managing my own tasks. When I initially started at the site, I felt a bit overwhelmed, but with the guidance and patience of fellow lab members I was able to work more independently and eventually help others too. I would like to pay the kindness I received forward to future lab members.
